I see on the front page of the Oct. 25th Shotgun News that one can buy an M1 Garand straight from the military through MacDill AFB in FL. Has anybody here ever done that? Are they selling good stuff or the dregs?

I suspect the the ad you saw is bogus. The only source for M1 Garands thru the government is via the Department of the Armys Civilian Marksmanship (DCM). The weapons do not come from MacDill.

Actually the MI could come from Dill through the program,but you would not know that until received or not at all,I agree the ad is bogus.

I checked into that ad and it is bogus. Some guy rents a P.O. Box there but no one @ the base knows anything about it. Its just a way to rip you off for a few bucks. The $$$ involved are so little that you can't afford to go after the guy but if he gets a bunch of people to send him $5 it's free money with little or no downside. @ best he may respond and direct you to the CMP program in order to get that Garand or '03A3. Don't fall for it.

Unless there has been a change, all of the DCM rifles come from the Anniston Army Depot, Alabama.
