Author Topic: Sights for huntsman- any ideas? (Read 1230 times)

Hey there, I'm new to the forum as of today, used to be on the old H&R1871 forum but never switched over to here with everyone else...

anyway, I've had my huntsman about 1 1/2 years and the sights on it are horrible. both lost the fiber optic pieces in them, which broke as a result of being dragged through the woods. i just recently but TRUGLO MUZZLE BRITE sights, but they won't fit without some modification. If i can manage to find some other sights and return these I'd rather do that. Any ideas on what to do? References to other brands of sights that fit the gun, etc.

Welcome home! Glad you finally made it here. Geeze, what took you so long? :toast:

Well, I'm sure that you are aware of the new Sidekicks. I say this because they are being supplied with metal sights made by Williams Gun Sight Co. I am of the belief that the Huntsmans being produced also come fitted with this more durable grade of glow sights.
Twer me,I would put your faulty sights into a envelope and send back to N.E.F.,with a note, for replacement.

At worst case, you could purchase these new type from the N.E.F..or Williams in Davison MI.
Another option,if you're open to it,would be to get a scope base from N.E.F., mount it to holes provided,and put a scope on her. :wink:

I'm gonna have to try the idea of sending them back to NEF... scopes dont work for me on a muzzleloader, I'm often hunting thick brush, like dried blueberry swamps or similar places so i need he open sights to pick up deer in there. Williams doesn't sell their firesights which are allready fit to the huntsman, or so i've heard. If NEF doesnt replace my sights for nothing, I suppose I'll just buy new ones. But I might wanna give them a call first- muzzleloader opening weekend is the 30th and i need to get good sights on A.S.A.P.

I hear you about the open sights. I reluctantly opted finally for a scope as was having trouble/or lack of confidence with my peepers at 100 yd targets.
I sure loved hauling that little gun around in the woods with the open sights though. :cry: Oh well.

I can tell you that my ramrod broke some months back and N.E.F. replaced it without any whimpers. Would surely think that they would replace your sights with the missing fiber optics.
I also remember reading posts where others had theirs replaced free of charge because of the same problem(s).
I think you are correct in calling them first. Maybe they will ship immediately knowing the urgent timing before the hunt.

:idea2: If you strike out, get back, and I'll make sure you have some sights before opener.Maybe original plastic, on loan,but you'll get them. :wink:

Have you considered a red dot sight? I've used one on my turkey gun with great success.

I have the same problem with my Huntsman and I just called C/S and they were very helpful. All I had to do was give them the Serial number of the gun and they are sending me new sights at no cost.

I'm glad to see that N.E.F. C/S took care of your problem. It doesn't surprise me that they did so. Most everything that I remember reading about product problems, the company has taken care of. That's good for sure! :grin:

Well, I ended up opting to just drill the sights I allready had on hand to fit
my huntsman since they said it'd take a few weeks to replace those old ones. I really cant miss opening weekend of muzzleloading (next saturday!) so i decided to suck it up and spend the extra 30 bucks instead of returning those. I'm actually looking into the red dot sights, I've heard they're phenominally good due to the fact that they've got no magnification and work great in low light. Do you guys know of any pros/cons for those? I want to put it on my slug gun if i end up getting one.

I have a friend that has a red dot from Millet on his huntsman and loves it. I have shot it at the range and it is very nice and accurate. Should be great in thick cover or deep woods where low light is a problem.

Thanks for the warm welcome home it sure does mean allot to me.

I'm doing great now that I'm back in the states !!!!!!!!
I have been resigned to the Alternate National military Command Center in Thurmont, Maryland so I have bunches and bunches of federal land to hunt. And I have found a guy here that is stationed with me that loves to hunt also he took a doe this past saturday using one of my muzzle loaders. So life is good.

I just returned from hangimg a new tree stand near a couple of active scrapes. Having finished that,I feel pretty good......but hearing that you are doing well makes me feel even better, and definately has made my day! :grin: :grin:
