Were to buy an encore slug barrel
« on: November 18, 2004, 01:24:10 AM »
I was wondering if anybody can direct me to a reputable dealer to purchase a 12 gauge rifled barrel for my encore?

I have had the 209 50 for a few months I added a larger hing pin changed the stock and forearm to walnut and converted to .25acp breech plug. I have shot every sabot i could out of it and also powder. I am able to do .5 inch groups at 50 yards using 80 grains blackmag3 spit patching between shots and a 295 grain hollow point powerbelt. This is the 4th time I have ever shot a rifle or gone to a range but have read every post on about 4 different boards on muzzleoading for a few months and it has taken over my free time and I love it. I live in NJ along the coast about 5 miles inland. I hunt deer mostly in small pockets were you would never believe they are and in pretty close proximity to developments. for anyone looking to shoot blackmag3 I would highly reccomend it. It is cleaner and more accurate than both Pyrodex and triple seven in pellets or powder for me. I still have to spit patch between shots to seat a bullet all the way down.

My advice, make sure you want to do this before you buy the barrel. See if you can find someone with this setup who will let you fire a few shots.
My brother did this with his Encore. He said the recoil was brutal. I realize everyone feels recoil differently, but there could be something to it, as it cracked the stock on a fairly new gun.
Check it out first.

I have the standard 12 guage barrel with sights - the recoil is not that bad, yes, you can tell when it goes off - however, it is not enough to crack the stock.
