45-70 again
« on: October 25, 2004, 06:28:51 PM »
I finally got around to the 45-70 project.   Got it shooting on the paper and with a load of 39.9 grains of IMR 4198 behind the Sierra 300 grain HP/FN I put three shots into 1 3/8" center to center at 100 yards with two shots touching.  This was a milder load than I had before.
Hitting  2 1/2" high at 100 yards.  Good enough for my purposes of a 100 yard deer gun.  Plenty of kick left with this load but cases look good after shooting.

I still haven't put any across the chronograph but I suspect I will do it when it quits raining which is usually around the middle of August around here.
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.
