I have to agree with you about the fees.why don't they just add that to the price of the barrel, besides the accessory barrels probably just drop right on the frame most of the time anyway.I seriously doubt they do much fitting ,they probably have a pile of barrels and try a few until they find the one that fits the best.I have to send my .357 mag back because it is puncturing primers every few shots,and I dread this, because it will probably take 40 forevers to get it back, atleast that is what the majority says.The scope mount holes are off also. I wonder if the will do the trigger job since they are going to have the gun apart anyway.
