300 RUM reloads with Barnes TSX
« on: September 16, 2004, 08:29:05 AM »
Someone please help me with reload data for my 300 RUM.  I want to shoot the 180 gr. Barnes TSX at high velocity with excellent accuracy.  I have a Remington 700 SS BDL with a 26in factory barrel.  Fall deer season in rapidly approaching for Texas and Oklahoma and the shots are long out in northern plains areas.  I am a believer in the Barnes  bullets because I get better penetration and less tissue destruction at high velocity.  I love the nosler's too but I always get alot of meat destruction with them.  The Barnes bullets are being a little troublesome with fine accuracy, not to mention expensive trying to develop the loads.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Sendero 300 rum which shoots 180 tsx loads.  I get excellent accuracy with 88 grains of RL25.  The COL is 3.640.  The load shoots under .5 moa all day.
I also use Nosler Accubond 200gr with 87 grains of RL22.  The COL is 3.625.  This load groups even tighter at 100 yards.
Which ever you choose, good luck.
Oh yeah, the tsx really crushes a hogs skull.

This is not a barnes 180 tsx load but... I use a 200 gr nosler accubond with 92 gr of RL25 lit by Fed 215M primer.  I set the OAL as long as the magazine will permit; my rem 700 has a very long throat.  Anyway this load gives about 3150 fps on the chrono and will leave 3 shots @ 100yds almost touching if I do my part in shooting and holding the gun consistently.  Work up from starting load and be safe.  Every gun is different!  That 200 accubond is very sleek and really cuts through the air with a claimed BC of .588.  That last 100 fps won't make much difference; just find the accuracy.
