slow bullet?
« on: October 24, 2004, 01:43:52 PM »
I understand that a ballistic tip bullet will work better at slower volecity,so with 7mm-08 it shows 2800 fps,now with 20 inch barrel that will drop a little so that should make it a great deer round, right?
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

You didn't mention what bullet weight you were thinking of using.  With lighter constructed bullets, I prefer heavier weights, even at lower velocity.
My choice would be a 150 gr. NBT. At  even 2700 fps, it would be very lethal on deer well past 300 yds. and normal hunting ranges.

Yes Billy as I've already told you that bullet in your rifle makes a fine deer killer. And I've actually used that bullet in a gun like yours to kill deer. Blam. Flop. Dead dear down in it's tracks.

I had bad luck with ballistic tip in 270 ,so that is why i was unsure . Shot two deer with the 270 npt and never found  them ,had good blood but no deer.
