If I sight my Huntsman in 2" high at 50 yards, where will it hit at 100 and 125 yards? I'm shooting 90gr. of loose 777 with a 295 gr. Powerbelt.

Well, I'll take a run at this... but I will have to interpolate a little from some ballistics data from PowerBelt.

My data is with a 26" barrel and 100 gr (2 pellets) Pyro and using 295gr AeroTips.

Your Huntsman has a  24" barrel, but you are using 90 gr 777 which is equivalent to approx 104gr of Pyro and should get full burn in 24",so should be close enough.

Note: If you are using a scope with high mounts, the following numbers at 100 and 125 yds may be a little low.

  muzzle.. .... 50yds  ............100yds.............125yds..............  150yds

   - 1.5" ....... +2.0" ............. +2 3/4"............ +1.0" .............. - 1 1/2"

If using the PowerBelt Hollow Points, you would have to have + 3" at 50 yds to get about the same trajectory as listed above for the AeroTips.

Hope this helps, but you should try shooting at 100 yds with your gun to varify these numbers.

HEY,
Where is everybody  .  At the old H&R Huntsman Forum, guys were checking in every day or so.   Over here, you can go a day or so and no one  post anything.   COME ON, check in and post, lets make this an  active forum.

this forum is actually one of the most active here.

Hi,

i am using the same setup, but with high mounts.  Something is weird because i consistenly hit +3" at 50 yds and -4" at 100 yds.  Instead of 777 I am using 90 gr. of loose Pyrodex.  Does this sound correct?

borg1,   To answer your question, no....it doesn't sound right. I'm sure that's what you are seeing/getting, but the ballistic data I have available indicates better performance (flatter trajectory) should be obtainable.

It may help to know what type of loose Pyro you are using, how old is it, could moisture have gotten to it,etc.

What type of PowerBelts are you using (HP or AeroTip)?

What gun are you using: NEF Huntsman w/24" barrel or Sidekick w/24",26" barrel,....or other?

Using a 295 PB AeroTip for example, the following should be fairly close with 100 gr of powder:
At + 3" high at 50 yds,the projectile should still be climbing through 75 yds to + 4" and strike the 100yd target (dropping) at approx +3 3/4".....and still + 2 1/2" at 125yds...and - 1/2" at 150 yds.

My Huntsman has center of scope ( line of vision) to center of bore at approx 2.0".
Note: The above example is with line of sighting +1.5" above muzzle.

Your charge of 90 gr loose ( 10% less than above example) should not give you a descrepancy ( IMO ) of -4" low @ 100yds vs + 3 3/4" high in  example, for a total spread of  7 3/4".

I am using 90 gr of loose pyrodex RS.  It is a fresh batch, bought new this fall.  the gun is a huntsman with 24" barrel.  The distance between my scope and barrel is also 2 inches.

I shoot a nice group 3.5" at 100 yds but its low.

I have some time this Friday.  I might take it to the range to work things out...
