mossberg 9200
« on: October 09, 2004, 10:54:47 AM »
i was at a gun show in medina ohio today and picked up an almost-new 9200. it doesnt look like its been fired much and when i stripped it to clean it, it showed no signs of wear or abuse. in fact it looked like someone else kept it pretty clean.

its got the insert in the stock for a cheekpiece and came with one choke tube.

i made the guy about 4 offers before something worked out. i ended up taking it home for $265.

i have liked these for a long time but could never find what i wanted.

i know some people dont like em but i know a guy who has one who loves his.

thoughts, comments? any tips on how to get it shooting good?

and does mossy make a rifled choke tube?

well i took it out tonight to a farm near here to shoot it and see how it did and also to scout out a deer trail i want to hunt this year. the gun functioned flawlessly, points great, and kicks less than my 20 gauge does.

because of the aluminum receiver, its much lighter than most semi-autos i have held, and balances nicely. i think i have a new favorite gun.

now i wanna find out if it shoots slugs worth a darn. i found rifled tubes for it but its not drilled and tapped. oh well. i still have my model 500 for that.

now my 500 is for sale as i found out my NEF 20 gauge will put sligs wherever i want them.

i dont need two 12 gauge mossbergs so someone will get a good deal out of this.

so if anyone wants a 500 12 gauge combo check the classifieds or PM me.

mjbgalt,

Sounds like you have made a fine purchase there. I have had a 9200 Slugster Combo for 10 years now. I have probably taken more deer, turkeys and pheasants with that gun than any other. I was a little sceptical about buying a Mossberg at first but heard good reports from others on how accurate the slug barrels were, so I gave it a whirl. Let's just say I have never been disappointed in the way this gun handles or functions.

Originally it had the 24" rifled cantilever slug barrel and the 28" vent ribbed barrel with three choke tubes. The stock had the two comb pieces that you could change back and forth for each barrel. I also bought a saddle scope mount for turkey hunting. After a year of switching back and forth with the saddle mount, I decided to buy a 24" cantilever smoothbore with screw in chokes for turkey hunting. With all three barrels this set-up has served me well over the 10 years.

I have only had two problems with the gun. First, the threaded barrel ring on the original rifled barrel at the receiver extension was slightly loose and was promptly replaced by Mossberg. Second, I had a hairline crack develope in the walnut forearm, also replaced in less than 1 week by Mossberg. I have hunted hard with that gun for 10 years and would still give it high marks. The 9200 also has a Lifetime Warranty!

I think you will enjoy many years of use from  your 9200.
