« on: August 25, 2004, 10:30:37 AM »
Anyone tried these? They claim 4000 fps. I am wondering about the accuracy.

Thanks

Mike

The winchester white box 45gr HP seem to be very accurate in most guns I have shot them out of both in 223 and 22-250.  I only shot two coyotes with the .223 45gr HP and neither exited.  Remington UMC also makes a 45gr HP now too and it is a great shooter for the money.

Can't comment on the 22-250 load, but the 223 ammo is the most accurate load I've found yet for my Oly AR-15 Match.  It's got a fast-twist barrel, so it's supposed to shoot the heavy stuff better, but not so!  Three-quarter inch groups at 100 yards, or better.  The irritating part is, so far none of my handloads have come closeto beating it.  My ace in the hole (I hope) is the Hornady A-Max bullet, gonna pick some up this week.  Wish me luck, our local coyotes have gone unmolested for far too long!

I used 3 brands this week as a test in my win mod 70 stealth...this gun can shoot but I've switched to a more modern ballistic tip & some of the groups are not what I feel they should be...I tested fed prem 55 gr HPBT , Win.prem 50 gr ballistic tip [black box] & rem standard 55 gr soft points...The fed stuff shot nice round 3/4 to 1 inch groups at 100 yds & shot well inside 1.5 inches at 200..the win. 50 gr. load had best group at 100 .610..At 200 it was nearly 2 inches but nice & round..the rem standard factory soft point went 1.75 inches at 100 yds ..no other testing was done with that lot..My own handloads with Win 748 powder went .710 & loads with IMR 4064...shot a nice round .653 group at 100 & .912 at 200 yds..all test groups were 5 shots from hot dirty barrel with only one fouling shot when switching from one brand to another..Wind was in my face from the north shifting to NW with some tailing action near the line & relative calm out at two hundred yds..temp was mid fifties...I'm going to try both the hornady & nosler ballistic tips 55 gr. with the 4064 load side by side as soon as I can...mike in ct

The white box winchester USA 40 pack for $14 in my 22-250 consistantly shoots 3/4" 5 shot groups @ 100 yards. Out of my 22-250 rem 700 they cross the chrony at 3850.
