Fred, I can still see the avatars and the spellcheck is working here. Could it be something at your end?....<><....

Scroll to the top of the page and see the GBO System wide message about Avatars...maybe that's where it went...

Fred
Your avitar is less than the MAX mentioned in the notice.  I say there is a prob on your end as spellcheck works fine for me also and I still see your smiling face   next to your post.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Not only mine but all the rest of them were gone. But now everything is back to normal. Must have been some quirk or jerk in my computer. There is always something acting up with that cable modem. I got more protective software on my computer then Carter got liver pills.

zonealarm has blocked 47806 intrusions, 2281 have been highly rated.
The firewall has blocked 239149 access attempts.

Spybod, McAfee, Norton and Ad-aware are catching a whole bunch more of others. Computeres are not very safe anymore. All this protective software slows things down, you need a Gigabyte of RAM and the fasted processor to just keep up with that stuff.

Who in hell is doing all this garbage, don't people have better things to do?

No Fred apparently some folks don't have better things to do. They spend their life trying to make life difficult for the rest of us.

At GBO we add one single cookie to your computer when you visit. That cookie is required to be able to stay logged in. When you leave you can delete it if you wish. I do. We add nothing else to your computer. No other cookies, no adware, no spyware and the way we're set up on our server you cannot get a virus from this site. That's the way it will always be at GBO.

The vocalize thingie is a deal Matt thought would be super cool so he added it. Me I think it's kinda dumb. IF and only IF you have all the proper software on your computer it will read the messages out loud to you via your speakers. If you don't nothing should happen. You'll see a little bird named Peety who pops up and a word balloon will come out of his mouth. The words in the post will pop into the word balloon as he speaks them.

Now a couple folks have said they developed problems when they tried it. I do not know of any logical reason for this to happen. It does try to load the software when you click it but if you don't have it then it should merely cause a short delay and then all should be normal. That's what happens on our two computers here not set up to hear the voice.

Personally I'd say ignore it and maybe in time it will go away.  :-D

Thanks Bill (Graybeard)
Saw that fancy bird flying onto the screen. Pretty need. He only read but did not talk. I don't have the software for it to hear him talk talk talk.

That reminds me of a great joke about a talking parrot, unfortunately it is sexist and not suited for publishing.

GB and Fred M., Peedy the Parrot is great, it's kind of nice to sit at the computer an night with a hot cup of Tea (or a cold drink) and read and listen to the posts at the same time. I'm kind of old fashioned but I do like it, way to go Matt!!!! By the way, it worked great for me with no problems....<><....

The bird won't talk to me either.  Not sure I like 'chinery talking to me anyway.  Hated those da..n cars that talked to you.  'chinery is supposed to just do what you want it to and keep quite.
Edit:  P.S.  I really hate to appear any dumber than I am, but what is an avatar.  I guess I want to know, maybe not.  Will it improve the quality of my life if I know?

Sure it will. It will put the spring back in your step and the smile back on your face. Women will flock to you in droves.  :-D

See that purdy picture of me under my name on all my posts? That's an avatar. Note lots of folks have them but not everyone. All can have them if they want to tho. Size of image just has to be 95x95 pixels or less.

Donaldo.
Avatar is a very confusing name for a picture that appears on you post.

a.)The incarnation of a Hindu deity.  b.) A incarnation in human form.
c.) An embodiment ( as of  a concept or philosophy usual in a person.
d.)A variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity.

Take you pick.

Thank you GB and Fred,
Fred, I said I thought you had tunnel vision on one post.  From what I just read I guess I have to retract that.  You have wide angle vision.  Is there any subject you are not interested in?  I have always thought I was the king of trivia, (i.e., useless bits of info) but I think I may have found my match.  Thanks guys,  :-)
