Marlin 336 .30-30 Conversion to .307 Winche
« on: July 29, 2004, 07:46:53 AM »
No first hand experience. Obviously the standard 94 isn't set up for 52K CUP (307 is in that area if memory serves me, 30/30 about 38K), but they made the 336 in that caliber and one could assume that it should handle it.

Here is a list of Lever smith's, drop one a line.

Chris,
The 336 has been rechambered from 35 to 358 a few times. There's no reason to suspect the 30-30 to 307 should be any more difficult. The rim diameters are basically the same so no bolt face work should be required. Make sure you use a 336 made since 1972; they're supposedly heat treated to take higher pressure.

The .30-30 chamber is 0.024" longer than the .307 chamber and 0.014" smaller in diamter at the mouth.  You will probably need to set the barrel back a thread.

.307 Winchester

As I understand it, the .307 Winchester is simply a rimmed case .308 Winchester.

The chamber can be cut using a .308 Winchester reamer, with no barrel setback requuired.

.307 Win.

Just came across this forum.  Great info.  Turns out, I had my Marlin 336 rechambered to .307 Win. about 15 years ago and I have had no problems whatsoever.  I love it for hunting whitetail in the NE where the woods are thick and visibility limited.  It's a really good brush buster equipped with Williams receiver sight and post front.
I realize I am late responding to a msg. from last August but this may be helpful to some.
Good hunting!

I have a 30-30 rechambered to a 307. Nonneman did the work for me.
I think he has a website www.leveractions.com.
I use 308 brass and it works fine.
I have shot several factory loads and it will not eject the brass.
i think the price is less than a $100 to rechamber it.
