Ok, I'll admitt that I've always been intrigued by the .35 Rem cartridge, yet I have never owned any firearm chambered for it. But, I may change that soon!?

I would like to hear what 200 grn bullet all you .35 Rem. shooters, past & present, would recommend for use out of a Super 14 Contender barrel?!

I understand a lot of guys like the 180 grn spire point for deer, but I'm looking for something to use on a big ol' hog. And a couple years ago I watched a friend of mine use a 200 grn JRN factory load from Federal on a 200 lb. sow (actuall weight by scale), and we thought bullet was way to soft.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

IME the best 200-grain bullet is the Remington CoreLokt. Unlike the bullets from the custom bulletmakers, this bullet is specifically designed for the velocity window of the .35 Remington. For example, a Hornady 200RN has to be usable in the .35 Whelen so it is a tougher bullet. The differences are small, but you asked.... :wink:

It is a full bull profile SS 14.5" custom with a rim counter bore and extractor set up for Krag brass. Yes, I do prefer the 180gr spire point.

Where am I going with this? Well, to say that I'd definitely rather use my 12" 445 Super mag with 300gr slugs on hogs

Any of the RN 200 grain bullets will work great. They are all specifically designed to work in it and they do. Personally I use either the Hornady or RP and seldom any of the others but as I say it really makes little difference. All are perfect. I don't even bother with any other bullet for this round except a 200 grain cast bullet at times.

I've always been impressed with the remington 200gr RN for the 35 rem 14" contender barrel. Its a great deer barrel too. You don't loose much when stepping down from the 18-20" barrels it is used in for rifles. Great handgun round.

In my .35 Remington barrel, Sierra 200 gr. has a slight edge on accuracy over the others I've tried and they all perform well including the Remington Core-Lokt. I've tried the Speer 180 gr. FP too and it's not quite up to the accuracy level of any of the 200's but does very well in my Marlin. I use slightly compressed loads IMR4064 (book maximum) and have notice about 200 fps drop in MV from the 14" vs 20" barrel with my chrony. The 200 grain gives an average of 1850 fps and the 180 grain clocking an average of 1920 fps at 15 feet from the muzzle with the 14" barrel. My current favorite Contender load is the 200 grain Sierra.

I have owned a Contender with the 14-inch barrel in a .35 Rem. for several years. My personal favorite is the 200-grain round nose bullet made by Winchester. Very accurate round. I can blow of gallon mild jugs at a 100 yards all day long with that combo. It is also a wicked round for hunting whitetails.

The 200 grain round nose from Sierra works great in my 14" tube.It will shoot tighter groups then the 180 ssp.

Whatever is on sale....200 grain Hornady, Sierra or Remington...l like them all, but like 180 SSPs from Hornady best of all.
