:D  to the wire

   Just picked up a 91/30 in 7.62 x 54 Russian
Would like to know when made if some of you guys in the know can help
serial no. M 97450.  Good bore and came with cleaning parts and double top metal can? shoots a little low (just need to learn the sights) and 2.5 inches to the right at 100 yards, but will get that fixed this week, after  I get the stock refinished and back on the gun.

The date is right on top of the receiver.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

The Russians are masters at "REBUILDING" things
instead of discarding them. The date on the receiver
is probably the correct year of manufacture for the receiver,
but probably not the rest of the gun.

The date of when it was rebuilt is on the top of the barrel with the serial number and it will have a symbol as to where it was made too.  Now if you take the gun out of the stock on the rear bolt hole underneath the reciever there will be another date stamped.  If it matches the barrel which most of them don't its an orginal gun.  Most likely the reciever is much older.  I have seen one brand new M44 Mosin that number matches on reciever and barrel I bought it new years ago.  It also has a laminated stock too.  I've only shot it one and its 18" to the left and 18" high at 100yds. which proves my point its never been sighted in yet either so it is brand new.  I was aiming at one target and hitting my other one??  Needless to say i didn't take it hunting with me.  That little M44 sure does have some kick though over the longer 91/30's and M39's.  BigBill
