Garmin E-trex Legend Color. Has anybody tried it?
« on: August 30, 2004, 08:54:19 AM »
I have been a happy camper with my Garmin Legend, but like most people I want more.  California is a large state and at times my recreational and retirement job requires my presence in different locations in CA and NV.  It would be "nice" to have more maps on board.  While it is not a big problem to load maps from my laptop it would still be nice.( I normally have tags for two different zones)  These zones exceed the size of some Eastern States.

Another attractive feature is that the new Legend C is rated at getting 36 hours out of a set of batteries.  That is very nice.  There are times when I camp out for a week or two on a fall hunting trip.  That feature alone puts it on my want listed.

There are bigger gps units out there by Garmin and others, but I like the size of the Etrex Models.  It is small and handy.  There is only so much room in my day pack.  If I get much more in it, I will need electronic knees to get me over hills.

How do I justify buying this new gps to my wife?   :)

The only thing I can think of is that I plan on giving my current Legend to one of my granddaughters.  When we go out geocaching she always has it around her neck.  She knows how to use it to find caches and our way back to the pickup.  Grandma will do about anythings for those grandkids.  Himmm I wonder if it will work.

I am not going to rush into this.  I hope the price drops a little for this new item.  I will being using my old one this deer season, but I will be saving my pennies.

I'm behind the times. I didn't even know there was a color Legend.

The Legend C has not been out very long.  Looks like the price is starting to drop a little.  It still needs to drop some more before it gets in my reach.  I have bought to many toys this year, but I sure would like one.

I read the color model is easier to read.  I have not had problems with the old gray scale model, but I will take any help I can get.  The improved battery life and larger memory are the big hooks for me.

I have bought too many toys this year also. I wouldn't feel right about even bringing it up to my wife. She is very understanding of my hunting "needs". I just upgraded to a Legend from a yellow Etrex. I didn't think I really needed the extra features, but they are nice to have. I also bought two new climbing stands this year before the season started. Summit Viper X4's. I just sold a Colt SAA that I've had in the safe since 1976 so I could buy a Ruger 77 MK2 in 30/06, and a nice Nikon Monarch 4X12 scope. I also sold my Savage 110 (because of the new Ruger), and am using that money to put a new rest and new sights on my bow. It seems to be never ending.
