What's the difference between the Handi & the Ultra series? I looked on the hr1871.com site and didn't find anything conclusive other than synthetic stock options & the availability of barrels in stainless steel.

The Ultras have laminated wood stocks, not synthetic, a longer supported scope rail and a finer finish on the metal.

What type of finish is it on the Handi? Do you have to do anything in particular to protect a Handi from damage if you have it out in the rain?

Well...here's a good one for you...I got a laminated stock on my non-ultra( it really is...they even put a little blue&white tag on it to tell you)...but I would have prefered the plain birch as compared to this ugly one<<<<<<<<<<<<<<YUCK>>>>>>>can we say butt ugly?

They probably have some special purchase models around....Marlin produced some 917VL models with desert camo stocks, not the usual gray laminate or wood stocks that come on the 917V or 917VS.

If I'm correct that grey laminated stock was put on the youth models for a limited run. My local gun shop had some and I let one get away in the 7mm-08 cal. Sure wished I had a chance at that rifle again. I thought it was a beautiful rifle. :lol:

Are the stock and barrell finish the only differences? I'm going to buy a .223, and I'm leaning towards the Ultra-Varmint. I like the looks of the stock, and I hope it's more likely to be accurate.

Are the Ultra stocks shaped different?

Are the Ultra triggers any different?

What difference will the UV's 24" barrel make vs the 22"?

The Ultra 223 barrel that I have is a little thicker than my sons NEF varmit barrel,and is 2" longer. The Win. varmit pk. ammo that supposed to be 3660fps. is 3450 in my 24" barrel and about 3350 in my son's 22" barrel. Digger

The white box stuff, 45JHP, out of my 223 UV is also about 3450 fps. It is advertised at 3600. Funny, the white box 22-250, 45JHP out of my bolt rifle, custom mauser, shilen barrel is a bit over 4000, like 4070 or so. It is advertised at 4000 but shoots at a bit more. Wonder why the Handi's won't shoot them at the advertised velocity. Anyone shot the 223, 45JHP white box stuff out of a bolt rifle. I suspect the long throat and microgroove barrel on the handi keeps the velocity down.
