Just thought I'd start a new post about the new 5.7 ltr "HEMI". I know they've been out for a couple of years now but it's still a pretty new design. I've always heard not to buy a first year production vehicle whether it be a new drivetrain, structure, or both because there always seem to be a few problems arise. So now that they are being put in everything from the largest 1 ton dodges to the Jeep Cherokee and evan the cars, what is your experience with them?

I have had mine for a year and 11K miles now.
2004 Dodge 2500 4x4, Quad Cab, Short bed, Laramie, 5spd auto, 4.10's
I haven't had a single problem with it and haven't been to the dealership except to get a new oil filter every 3K. I put an airforce one intake kit and Flowmaster cat back dual exhaust on it to help it breath a little. It sounds great and runs super smooth. My mileage now is about 12.5 a gallon and pretty much all town/city driving where I live in southeast Alaska. I don't really notice a difference in 4x4 or not. January was pretty much all 4x4. I did go up to the Yukon this last summer and got 16.5 mpg throughout the trip. I am not displeased with this from a truck this size. In High School I drove a 1968 GMC 1 ton 2x4 that got 6mpg with a 350 small block. Or maybe my foot was heavier
Also I have always used only regular 87 octane fuel. I know my manual suggests mid grade 89, but is says 87 is fine. I haven't had any negative impacts such as knocking, hesitation, rough idle, etc. I will try and post a picture of truck when I figure that out.

So far I love it. Its probably the best riding vehicle I've ever driven. It has all the power you'll ever need!  No real dislikes.

I have a 2004 "half ton" 4 door long bed with about 20,000 miles on it so far.  No actual problems with it but one of the engine indicator lights has been coming on intermittently.  I took it to the dealer for analysis and the mech said that the indication is caused by tapping the brake pedal to turn off the cruise control.  Since I have started using the Cancel button to turn off the cruise when only shutting off the cruise, I have not seen the light come on.

The power is real nice; it drives over hills and mountains like they aren't there, even when there is a load in back.

I have heard that the combustion chamber is not really hemispherical; anyone know anything authoritative about that?

NYH- One of my coworkers got a new Durango with the Hemi too. He really likes it, with the tow package it's rated for somthing like 9 thousand pounds.
GG- I use the CC quite a bit to work and back, haven't had any problems using eigther of the shut offs(brake or cancel) but if it comes up atleast I'll know. It is true about these new Hemi's not having true hemispherical cumbustion chambers like the originals did. So when some guy yells at you that it's not a "REAL" hemi he is partially correct, but very jealous.
