.35 Rem for Moose?

Going after Moose Thursday.  Thinking about trying my Contender with .35 Remington barrel.  Have some 200gr speir points, also some 200gr round nose bullets.  But am leaning toward the Speer 220gr FPSP.  Range should be about 50 yards.

It'll work like a champ.  My brother loves the 35 Rem and has taken several moose with his contender.  The 220 Speer will be the best choice on big bruisers like moose but the 200s will do the trick.  Go for the 'right behind the shoulder' shot with either of those bullets and he'll be yours.  As usual it might take a minute or so for his little brain to realize that he's dead.  It's just a matter of time.

I killed one 45" moose with my Contender in .35 Remington.  This was over 15 years ago, and I used the 250 Speer SP; the 220 was not in production at that time.  The shot was at 25 yards as he trotted quartering towards me.  Broke the front leg as he landed on it so down he went, and stayed down.  After breaking the leg the bullet went through the lungs and lodged in the off cavity wall.  There was little expansion, as one would expect with this tough bullet.  I finished him with a .45LC bullet in the neck.

Today I'd use the Speer 220 or the Nosler 225 BTip, loaded as fast as I could safely push it.   But don't expect him to die immediately.
