got the .35 project done
« on: January 22, 2003, 11:36:22 PM »
put together a new gun for the girlfreind. .35 rem marlin pistol grip. barrel shortened to 16 1/2 action and trigger done. Refinished the stock it was an exceptional factory stock. put a pac pad on it shortened it 1/2 and put a ebony grip cap on it. Got rid of all the cheesy spacers. Put a red dot on it cause that what she shoots best. Now all I need to do is cast up some bullets and find her a pig to kill!

Sounds like a great set-up. I always wondered why Marlin did not make a short barrelled gun in .35 Remington.  From the looks of Contender data with a 14 inch barrel, there is very little velocity loss.  Your gun should be a real hog killer.

Cast bullets in the .35 Remington

Lloyd-

I'd be very interested to hear about your results with cast bullets in that Marlin .35 Remington.  I have a Marlin 336D Mini-Guide-Gun that I picked up last month; and I was planning on trying cast in this gun.  I have ordered a Beartooth Bullets firelapping kit and Technical Guide from Marshall Stanton and I plan to lapp the barrel first before shooting any cast through the Micro-Groove barrel.  I'll also be putting in an order with Beartooth for some of their 185 grn F/N G/C's and also their 200 grn F/N G/C's but I'm sure that waiting for that order will set back the project til mid summer.

Again, please keep us posted on how your carbine shoots and let me know if you need a hand with the testing (Ha, Ha). :D

Very neat set-up, Lloyd!  Sometimes we forget that the more petite ladies need much different stocks, and those longer barrels are the equivalent of much longer barrels for us taller types, too.  Only problem is, I bet you've gone and SPOILED her, now?   :)
