As Handi said, welding is an option. However, I don't know that I would want that much heat on the hinge pin, since it may have an effect on the tempering. It might also change the way another barrel will fit the receiver. The part that is changable needs the modification (i.e. barrel), not the permanent part (i.e. receiver).
When you wrap the shim stock around the hinge pin, the height may also be changed. If the socket has the shim stock put in the rear most position, it will only move the barrel back and not change anything else.
