gunshow observations
« on: November 07, 2004, 06:20:30 PM »
was at a gunshow this morning and the picking where surprisingly good, milsurp wise. i was only looking for some 6.5 ammo and found some folks that where selling Igman, so i bought 2 boxes. beside the igman ammo i noticed something else" whats this? bandoleers of Greek HXP .303 for $25 a pop? i'll take 3." i saw one of those 7.62x45 CZ-52's that we where discussing a few weeks back. $125, probably because no one has ammo and they're ugly as sin. if i had an extra $125 i would have given a cut down Krag a new home. a few oddities. some one had a bunch of milsurp semi-autos and one was labeled "SVT-40", but it didn't look like any SVT i've ever seen. it had 5 round mag and a very short barrel with no flash suppressor and a heat shield going right to the end of the muzzle. could it have been an SVT-38? i've never seen one so i can't be sure. funniest thing i saw al day was someone wanted $895 for a used Norinco M14, when the new price is only $499!

That price was a little high.I usually see them go for about $650 to $700.There aren't any "new" Norincos available.Where do you see them for $499.I'll take ten at that price.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

www.marstar.com

this being Canada, there is no embargo on Norinco's, so they are dirt cheap.M-14's for $499, 1911's for $325 and a 94/22 for $199. to bad they stopped making an AR15 knock off.

the other rifle was an SVT-40, the barrel had been cut off at the heat guard and the mag had been cut down. don't see how it could still be worth $500 after that kinda bubba job.

S,Sumner I wish you would talk to GW and end the importation of chinese norinco guns i've been waitinmg for a norinco M14 I figure its the better buy over the higher priced Springfield Armory since there having wuality problems lately.  I just don't want to crap shoot a $1,200 SA M14?  And don't sell those VZ-52's short I heard there good shooters too.  I picked one up with plenty of ammo and 9 magazines a while back.  Out of these smaller plinkers I kind of like the Rasheed 7.62x39 and the SKS the best.
I think your seeing the sporterized SVT-40 because there is a guy who was cutting them down into carbines in Canada.  There was a post about it on a site that the poster was his buddy spilling the beans about some of the SVT-40 Carbines being fakes but this guy in Canada is doing such a perfect job on the cut down most can't tell if its a fake or not.  I started thinking all the SVT-40 Carbines were fake but someone said on another site there is one in Russia in a museum.  Either way a short carbine in 7.62x54 shopuld be awesome!!   The proto type sks 41 was in 7.62x54 too and it never went into production.   On the 1911a1's  there's a new kid on the block one company is making frames for  three different brands of 1911 45acp pistols one is Charles Daly,  Rock Iland and SAM,s. I heard there pretty good too and priced cheaper under $300 thats a great carry gun.                         BigBill

Talk about fakes everything imported into this country is refurbished and restamped for us to buy.  The older collectors have the real thing have to get a chuckle out of this the minute its listed as oh look what we fouind in russia in a warehouse stored for over 50+ years but the finish looks to be still wet and the cosmo isn't hard Hmmm!!!!!  You can even buy not only the German stamps at numrich now but all the american stamps to make each gun correct for the period.  I have no clue on some of these whats real and whats fake now.  Down the road i figure someone would figure this out but S.Sumner did mention it a few times(hinted).
