I am looking for a light load for a TC carbine in 30-30. The load will be used for target shooting for a new shooter. The new shoooter is afraid of recoil. I am hoping to work up to hunting loads before deer season. We will be using 110gr. to 125gr. bullets. Any suggestions are appreciated.

BillSC,
One of the powder companies;Hodgdon,I think,has information on just that sort of load. Check out their website.
In general,they recommend loading 60% of the max load for less recoil,with sufficient power.

Hello Bill
I'm in Orangeburg. I've started shooting the Sierra 125gr fn/hp over 32.5gr of H322 this year in a Marlin levergun. This load is out of Sierra's manual. Very mild and accurate, I shot a five point on Aug. 16, 145 yds. golf ball size hole through the ribs going in, ran about 20 yds. Hope this helps.

I found a Blue Dot load of 7 gr. for a 110gr bullet. This load should have no more recoil than a .22. It won't be any good for anything other than paper and cans, but it will get the kid into shooting the gun.

I use 9 grain of Unique under a 100 grain Plinker bullet for a small game load. It makes nil recoil, and hits about 4 inches low at 25 yards when my rifle is sighted in for 150 grain hunting loads. If you hunt small game these loads can be a real hoot.

W-296 From 17.7 grains to 18.7 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

For the 125's:
SR-4759 From 16.0 grains to 18.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer
