Crows at nite

OK...ur all gonna flip or have a heart attack or realize you're not losing your mind. I thought I've been hearing crows at my house in the night hours (anywhere from 6:00-10:00) within the past few months. I just thought it either WAS me or I really was hearing crows. But no one else has ever heard of it so I just assumed I was hearing things. Well...my insanity ended last nite. I was getting out of my car at around 9:30 and I heard crows. I heard them in the treetops 50-60 feet away. I had a friend with me and she heard them as well. So...normal? Psycho? Sumtin wrong with my flock of crows? Gimme ur expertise. Thanx!  :D

No, there's nothing wrong with your crows. They are most likely finding a new roost. They are a social and migratory bird and often move their roosting place when necessary. A good roost in a remote location can often hold thousands of birds. Let them move in if you can stand the noise and droppings. They will offer good wing shooting but shoot in their fly path a few miles away and don't disturbe their roosting area. You may have a wing shooting gold mine in a few weeks.

Well, their current roosting area is about a 1/4 - 1/2 mile due east from where I heard them. Keep in mind that was the first verified account. I could have been hallucinating the other 15,000 times   . I just never heard of crows moving at nite. Any reasons? I don't think many predators would be able to get at them from the ground. Thanx for the intel!  :D

P.S.: Flash; u said there wasn't anything wrong w/ the crows...so does that mean that I'm psycho and not normal?  :)  :-D

One of three possibilities come to mind.

1. Those are roosting closer to you than you thought they were.

2. Something spooked them off the roost and that's where they ended up.

3. If the area is well lit they just might do a bit of night flying. It's not at all uncommon in my area for mocking birds to do so around the night lights everyone has and killdeers fly around as much at night as in day it seems here.

Since it's gunning season, they might stay put and feed or rest during the day and fly by night. Nothing out of the ordinary with birds flying at night. Waterfowl take flight at night also.

Yes...I've especially heard of geese flying at night and their uncanny ability to fly at night when they migrate. Well, the area (within a square mile) is lit so to speak....2 trucks stops plus some people around with pole lights. And trust me...they are certainly not resting during the day. I could walk out on my front porch when a flock is flying over and knock out 3 or 4 easy...but that's the time ya don't have the gun  :)  :-D . Thanks for the info...now I know that if I'm not insane it's not because of that.    :D
