what are your best CB referance books?
« on: November 07, 2004, 01:53:15 PM »
I wanted to ask the group which books you value the most as a primer, and advanced referance covering aspects of  cast bullets.

There are a couple I keep my eyes out for that I will bump into sometime but I was wondering what some of you consider your "must have" books on your shelf.
My current collection ranked in roughly order of richness of data is  NRA reloading handbook '60s (with all 4 of Col. Harrison's articles on CB, Lyman CB manual, Nonte's modern handloading and basic handloading.  Richard Lee's modern handloading,  and a stack of 30 plus year old handloader mags.
On my short list to find is Veral Smith's book Jacked performance with CB and the Handloader CB book which was a collection of CB articles.  I understand there is an NRA CB book wihich is a collection of mag. articles as well.  Any others I don't know about?? JB

I have a book  ( Magazine size) called: Handloaders Bullet Making Annual. 1990. Vol One. Wolfe Publishing. Not sure if they made any more will have to contact the library and ask them if they can find any issues after that. The book has 22 articles on casting, swaging, paper patching, lubes, bullet design, ect ect ect. Good book if you can find it. I bought mine at a gun show for a buck. Origional cost was $ 6.95. I also have some of the Handloaders digest which have some good articles in them. Along with you say the NRA reloading guides but they do not have any cast recipies in the rifle section. At least mine does not.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Pet Loads by Ken Waters is a great resource.  It talks about most cartridges, but usually includes his testing with Cast Bullet loads for most cartridges.

The Bullet Making Annuals from Wolfe Publishing were only made in two different copies. I have both and they came packaged with either Guns & Ammo or Shooting Times magazines. I actually called Wolfe to find out why they dropped the books from their publishing line and the answer was, not enough buyer interest. I almost fell off my chair. Anyway, Lyman load manuals and their cast bullet manual make the top of my list, along with Ken Water's manuals. Handloader magazine sometimes has some nice articles on cast loads too.

I guess I will have to keep my eye out for the second one.

Get Veral Smith's "Jacketed Performance With Cast Bullets". It is a gold mine.
