Remington rolling block Cavalry carbine in 45-70
« on: November 09, 2004, 10:26:42 AM »
Just picked up an 1874 ? Remington rolling block cavalry carbine. Been customized some, had receiver sight drilled and removed at some time. Currently has a williams rear blade sight in dovetail and unknown ramp front sight. , shoots 2 ft high at 50 yards, so obviously not set up right. Having aperature rear sight and firesight front put on. Where can i get standard blackpowder loads for it? Dont want to start reloading them myself yet.

Reloading suddenly sounds better. Figured the initial outlay would be prohibitive, but thats before i saw the prices for loaded ammo. It will pay for itself in the first ten boxes of ammo.

Howdy pard,

Donno why reloading would sound prohibitive at "startup". Use a single stage Lee press and dies....not much more than a couple of boxes of loaded ammo! Biggest cost factor will be slugs and powder! Next time yer at the range look in the trash barrel fer some of those steel case .45ACP empties, drill out the the primer pocket and you've got a nifty little wad punch fer free!

Have fun with it and report back here on yer shootin! We enjoy reading about that stuff! :D
