Handi vs. Rossi

There has been speculation in the past that Rossi made barrels for the Handi's.  Does anyone have a Rossi and a Handi.  If they do.....Can you change barrels between the two?  What an interesting thought, maybe just maybe the shortage of Handi barrels might be less than we thought.  Somehting I have noticed in the short time I have owned a Handi.  All of a sudden there are barrels of a certain caliber available then they are not and something else is available.  I think NEF does not make the barrels, some else does and they just order a bunch of this and that caliber.  Does this make any sense?  What do you guys thinks about this?

I don't know for sure, but I think H&R and NEF are in cahoots together. I don't think Rossi is part of that. And I don't think their barrels will fit on NEF frames.  8)

H&R and NEF are one in the same, Marlin owns both and is probably the barrel maker if they aren't contracted out to a regular barrel maker like Green Mountain.

You guys are correct H&R and NEF are the same company, slightly different model line, in name only really, all parts are exactly alike. They have both (one comany) been purchased by Marlin. Many barrels are made by Marlin and some specific barrels have been mentioned as being made by Green Mountain. And they are made in "runs" of a certain caliber at a time....<><.... :grin:

H&R/NEF and Rossi are completely seperate. The guns I have of both makes are not interchangable. I don't know where this rumor about H&R making barrels for Rossi or vice-versa got started but I don't believe it.
Matter of fact, it makes me smile to read that Rossi makes "junk", then the same person says the barrels are made by the same company.
A rumor is a rumor is a rumor, and it can confuse a lot of folks before it gets straightened out. Let's just make a call (each one of us) to H&R and ask them directly. Or will we not even believe the horses mouth?

Good idea! I sent em an email, I don't think they'll reveal their source, but we'll find out next week unless it's Marlin. They may also have difference sources depending on caliber and barrel material.

A side by side comparison of the two guns will tell you that they are not made by the same manufacturer.  The overall contour of the Rossi barrels are thinner than H&R/NEF barrels of the same caliber and the area where the chamber is blends into the barrel is more gradual on the H&R/NEF's.
All Rossi's centerfire calibers use an extractor rather than an ejector.

Well to start with I just said there had been speculation that Rossi might make the NEF barrels.  I always thought they were probably made by Marlin, because of the rifeling.  However.....no one has addressed my original question.  The Rossi looks like a copy of the Handi and yes the barrels have a different taper, anyone can tell that.  My question was...Does anyone own one of each, so they could see if the Rossi would fit the Handi frame and the Handi barrel fit the Rossi frame.  If.....big if, they would interchange, sure would make some more barrels available.

you cant change barrels between rossi and H&R/NEF. to be quite honest the handi is a better gun. the rossis are good but the nef handi is better in so many ways  :grin:
