44 mag/ .429 patching???
« on: September 17, 2003, 03:27:37 AM »
anyone found a readily available bullet good for patching in 44 mag rifles? I don't think the .410" bullets will patch up to .430" will they? You know,,this paper patching quest never ends!
thanks, alan in ga

Hi from Germany, :D

I cast standard bullets, .430 for .44 cal. or .458 for .45 rifle, of rather soft alloy or pure lead, patch them with 9 pound onionskin, let them dry and run them thru the proper sizing die. The results are outstanding, something I can`t say for my tests with smaller bullets patched up to the proper size I just screwed up with them.
Hope that makes things a bit easier for you.
Happy hunting !
