Well, I've got a couple of Enfields that I'm itching to shoot but I'm having trouble finding ammo.  Can't believe it.  Any suggestions or where to get it?  Any ammo is particlular that shoots well in an enfield?  Anyone shot the pakistani ammo?  Where to get S&B?  Any help/insight is appreciated!

Try these:
MidSouth; Midway ; Cheaper Than Dirt; they all have 303 British and MidSouth has S&B in 180 gr.

I was just browing AIM's site last evening and noticed they had some for sale.  Not sure of the quality however.

watch out for the milsurp stuff that's going cheap in the 32 round box.  Almost every round had a fdegree of hangfire for me.

do not REPEAT do not, use any pakistani surplus ammo!!! this stuff is absolute garbage! it's not ammo, they're drill rounds that surprise you by sometimes going off! for surplus i like the Brit stuff, and the Greek HXP is boxer primed, a bonus if you want to reload. as for factory i use either 180 gr. Winchester or the Remington-UMC 174 gr. FMJ. odd that you can't find any, every major ammo company makes at least one load.

Thanks all for your great replies.  I usually buy ammo from J&G Sales, CDNN, SOG, Century, etc.  Most places are out or they only have the Pakistani stuff that everyone claims is bad.  I did find one place today that has S&B in either 180gr. or 150gr.  I guess I'm somewhat spoiled because I'm used to 8mm, 7.62x39 & 7.62x54 availability and prices.  .303 sure is pricey by comparison.  I want to get my two new (to me) Enfields to the range ASAP to see how they will shoot.  May want to get a couple more while Centerfire still has them on sale for $80.

I have fired several hundred rounds of the ammo from
Pakistan and have been quite pleased with its performance.
Of the recent surplus I have aquired in .303, The Pakistani
stuff was the only ones that were not GREEN from tarnish
when they arrived. Now there was some I got a while back
that was sold as Pakistani but was actually from Pretoria
S.Africa. The primers were extremely hard and they kicked
considerably harder than what I was used to. I think that they
were loaded either as test rounds or they were for some type
of a Machine gun. They were not string Cordite rounds, it was chopped
into pieces.

I believe AIM surplus, sportsmansguide.com and southern ohio gun has 303 britt ammo its getting tougher to find along with 8mm mauser now too.  There is still some 8mm turk around but the yugo 8mm is out in some places.  While the 6,5 swede surplus is just about gone there is some 7mm mauser still around at samco and sportsmansguide buit some rounds need to be cleaned before shooting.  I guess its almost the end of the line on surplus ammo.  Thats my ammo report for the day.  :D              BigBill

About a year and a half ago I bought two boxes of pakistani ammo from Sportsmans Guide. I verified it was pakistani by looking up the markings on the box. Anyways, it's your standard late production .303 FMJ with that wood pulp up in the nose of the jacket to make the bullet less stable once it hits. I haven't had a misfire yet in my beat-to-heck 1913 Lithgow SMLE.

I know Petroria Metal Pressing sells commercial ammo in those 20 round  brown boxes with some african plains critters' picture on the lable. Right now the 170 something grain FBJBT is going for about $7 at Dunhams sporting goods store. I can't tell if this FMJ also has the light aluminum or wood pulp in the nose or if it is the old classic FMJ that was solid lead under the copper.

Fedral and Winchester also still load hunting ammo for the .303. You can order it from Midway USA catalogs or get it at bigger sporting goods stores.

i have been having the exact same problem we have an enfield. do you think my local gun shop would cary it im goin today ill ask. why have they stopped makin it? it is my dads gun and i was hopin once i grow up and have kids that i could pass it down and he or she could shoot it but i dont think ill be able to find amo any where. my mom wont let me reload.

TrapperZach,
You sound like a young man who's itchin' to use that .303 Enfield!  I wouldn't worry too much about finding ammo as there are allot of it around just not on every store shelf like the Dick's, Gander Mt., Cabela's, etc.  I have a favorite little gunstore I frequent and he carries the stuff all the time.  I'm talking about commercial brands, not mil-surplus.  If you aren't 18 yrs. or older, you'll have to ask Dad to purchase your ammo for you.  As you said, call around to local stores and see how you make out with the hunting loads.  If that doesn't work, then just give us a shout here and we'll find some for you.

In a few more years, once you become emancipated, and call your own shots, you can get into handloading and there are allot of people locally who will help get you started correctly.

i found some at the gun shop pmc british .303 made in usa 20 shells 17.00 kinda steep but if its good.

Century has the "Hotshot" brand .303 and it is pretty good.I would rate it as good as anything else I have shot.It costs about $7.50 a box.

Well, I want to thank you all again for your replies.  BTW, I just ordered two more Enfields from Centerfire.  (I will have four when these two arrive.)  Turns out Centerfire just got some S&B in so I ordered 5 boxes from them @ $8.50 ea.  They didn't charge me shipping since I ordered the two rifles.  They just slipped them in the same boxes as the rifles.  I do plan to check into the Hotshot brand from CAI though as noted in a previous post.

Just about anywhere in Canada you can buy Winchester or Federal .303 180 grain soft point ammo for between $18.00 to $23.00 bucks Cnd.

I write this from a town of 18 000 in BC's East Kootenays, this stuff is in every little gas station around here... if they sell ammo they usually have .303 British.

I need to find out where Kevin.303 is getting his 200 grain .303 ammo from!  That stuff should whack a moose real good!
