Horton Recalls Crossbows
« on: October 21, 2004, 01:26:59 PM »
Picked this up and thought maybe some would be interested.

Quote
TALLMADGE, OH—Horton Manufacturing Company issued a voluntary product recall last week on three models of its 2004 crossbow line. The models being recalled are: Hunter Max 175 with serial numbers below D 23,000; Legend XL 175 with serial numbers below E 64,000; and Explorer TR 175 with serial numbers below I 77,200.

Horton says it's determined that, under certain circumstances, the limb mounting system on these three models of crossbows could potentially become unsafe. Owners of these identified models of crossbows should contact the company's customer service department at (800) 551-7468 or visit www.hortonmfg.com for instructions on returning the affected models. Customers should have their complete mailing address, crossbow model and serial number available when contacting customer service.

No other Horton crossbow models or other products are affected by this recall.

Yeah about 1/2 million of them including the one we're trying to do a review on.

Now don't you just want an EXCALIBUR, :D  not too much to go wrong, same limbs on every model and they have used them for 15 years both carved limb and mag tip. Why change a good thing.  8)  :-D

You have that right Digger, I have nothing against any brand crossbow but them wheeled one's like their brothers the compound can have serious troubles with the limbs, cables, wheels, and strings.

That being said the TenPoint Stealth X2 I let my son have....Had a limb splinter last Sunday under hunting conditions needless to say the day was over.

Good point.... TenPoint with a phone call on Monday was good to their word and  ups had the xbow to them on wed and back to my son on Friday. Just like Excalibur would do...

Trying to talk him into a Excalibur if only as a back up crossbow, he is a compound man and likes anything HI-Tec looking.. :)

Of course if ole dad here keeps getting the Racks with Excalibur and no fellows I am not braging  he will end up with one. Three years = 1-11 pt, 1-6pt and 1-9pt   for him 3 years = 1-spike, 1-doe, and 1-doe and I keep telling him it's Canada rubbing off the Excaliburs

I have had 2 compound bows over the years that I bought new a Jennings and a Martin the Jennings was crap kept screwing up cables I dumped it for the Martin and have killed a bunch of deer with it and have never touched it. With the price of new xbows I think I will stay simple. I like my Barrnet straight prod xbow and if I ever upgrade I think I will stay away from the compounds and Keep it simple. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I have 5 Martin compounds, 2 Rages, a Jaguar, a Cougar and a Firecat, all sweet shooting bows.  I like to take one of them and my Excalibur hunting.

I just recently sold my PSE compound bow was having such bad withdraw pains I had to have another. So I bought another PSE to replace it.

I still love to shoot the vert bows, even though my shoulder has caused so much pain & mental anguish I can no longer be confidant enough to shoot the longbows instinctively and hunt with them. I figured I could drop way down in draw weight and stick a sight on it and perhaps even hunt small game with it. Went with 45# @ 28"

Digger I have the Martin Phatom compound, and the FireCat, One Martin take down recurve and one Martin longbow 40 -45 lbs. I like the Firecat with the round wheels at 50lbs.

wabi I like my Martin longbow the best at 45lbs 28" draw no sights and do get a bushy tail with it now and then.

As my age and yeh I hate ta say it but my health keeps acting up I sure do LOVE my Excaliburs more and more...but I like crossbows any way!!
