Very happy with T/C service
« on: November 24, 2004, 03:57:17 AM »
While chasing Bambi's dad around the hills of northern NM a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the laminated stock on my Encore had developed a crack near the frame bolt.  I knew it really couldn't be shot any more, but I was concerned because my ML elk season is rapidly approaching.  Figuring that I could always buy a cheap plastic stock if I had to, I took the chance and shipped the stock to T/C.  Much to my surprise, I received a brand new replacement stock (in the same limited edition laminate style) exactly two weeks after I shipped the stock to them.  Couting the time it takes something to travel from NM to NH and back, that's darn fast service.

This was my first experience with T/C's customer service department and warranty.  I must say that I am extremely pleased with the experience and very grateful to the fine folks at T/C for standing behind their product 100%.  I just wanted to take an opportunity to thank them publicly and to let you all know of my positive experience.  It's this kind of service that will keep me coming back for more (T/Cs that is).

Glad you had good service.  I on the other hand didn't!  I bought a new .30-06 barrel and forend.  When I went to put the encore together, I noticed that the screw holes for the forend were bad.  I could not screw the screws into the holes.  The screws would only screw in a thread or so and stop.  I called the shop up and talked to one of the techs and he said to send it to him and I would have it back in 10 days.  This was on the 25th of Oct.  As of today (Nov. 27th), I still have nothing.  I called up a few weeks ago and was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to retap my holes.  Tha is not what I call great service.

So something is wrong.  You get your stuff back in a very fast turn-around time.  I am still standing here with nothing.  Hunting season isn't going to be around for much longer.
Just another voice in the crowd!!!

I have also notcied that they are very good about warrantee work.  I have had several stocks break on my 209x50.  One of them was the laminated stock.  There is an inherent weakness in the wood encore stocks, the grain runs in such a way that any lateral pressure on the rifle could cause it to crack.  I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with the recoil of the 209x50 barrels, it most likely occurs during loading.  As the sabots get hard to push down the barrel it takes more and more pressure to load them and if you don't push perfectly straight down it could cause a crack.  I had two walnut and 1 laminated stock break on my  209x50 before I finally just got a synthetic stock and called it good.  I recently got a boyds laminated stock for my encore and find it to be much thicker around the receiver, I also took the time to glass bed the whole reciever into he stock to help it fit tighter and hopefully make it more durable.  I haven't had any trouble with the boyd stock as of yet, and honestly don't expect any.

I have had a barrel problem a year or so ago, but Thompson sent me a new one in 10 days.  I can't complain about their service.
