Encore in 300 Win Mag / New Encore Owner
« on: November 18, 2004, 12:05:27 PM »
I just ordered my first Encore from wally world. I have a Ruger #1 in 7STW so I ordered the 26" heavy barrel in stainless in 300 mag. I have wanted one for several years and just finally bit the bullet and ordered it.

What can of accuracy should I expect from this rifle? I know that rifles are individual things, but a good average wuld be appreciated.
I have read some of the posts on this forum and now I am scared that I made a bad choice of caliber with this rifle.  Are there any procedures that you experienced Encore owners use to break in the barrels for the best accuracy.
Can anyone recommend a scope mount for this rifle in stainless and a scope for this caliber.

I would appreciate any responses that are given.

I have a SS 300 Win Mag barrel for my Encore also. I am getting 1 to 1 1/2 in groups at 200 yards. I am using 165 gr. Barnes X bullets. I really think it is a great barrel.  :D

BKS, I think you will be more than pleased with the Encore 300 mag. Just got mine a couple of weeks ago and I am more than pleased with the accuracy. Tried 165gr Hornady Interbonds and Sierra 180gr Pro Hunters and both shot under an inch at 100 yds. The thing I liked the most was that the Sierras still shot slightly under an inch at 200 yds. Mike

I used the Burris Dual Dovetail bases with Signiture rings and it is solid. I am using some Winchester 180 grain failsafes. I found 6 boxes for $13 a box, wished they had 20 boxes but I bought all they had. Worked good on elk and deer. I will reload some 165 grain when they are gone.

I can't wait until it gets here and I can get it set up. I appreciate the replies. I want the mount and rings to match the rifle so a silver or stainless mount is in order. I don't mind spending the money on a quality mount.  I like the idea of steel mounts and not aluminum, too. Are the leupold dual dovetail mounts aluminum??

Wish I could find some ammo for $16.00 a box. I have been used to paying $30.00 a box to feed my 7 STW(thats for the regular ammo)

Again thanks for the replies and wish everyone a good safe holiday.
