I recently returned my 50 cal. side-hammer 1:32" twist "Lightning Fire" to Traditions for evaluation because it would't group after three years of efforts. Their gunsmith reached the same conclusion w/o offering a fix.
Instead, they want to replace the gun with a recently discontinued hybrid model "Thunder Magnum" 50 cal. side-hammer. This gun is a Hawkens style carbine length 50 cal. side-hammer with removable breech, non-hooked, and carbine barrel-band instead of a wedge-pin. It has a 1:32" twist and a monte-carlo style stock.
Now, I know the traditionalists won't want any part of this hybrid with a comprimised twist, but.........it will shoot conicals and sabots for hunting, which is why I bought the Lightning Fire in the first place. What do you think of their offer? I am considering going with a Kentucky long-rifle in 1:66" twist, round ball only, as an alternative.
