200gr Shockwave results

Slow opener in Michigan...guess nobody else could get Monday off work!
We didn't see many deer the first couple of hours...a spike and a group of 5 does that all crossed at about 250-300 yards and never stopped for a shot opportunity.
Finally a couple does and a yearling booked it straight across the open field for us, giving me plenty of time to bring my Omega to bear.  The 200gr Shockwave entered just behind the front shoulder of the nearest deer, exiting out a 1.5-2" hole just behind the back rib on the opposite side.  The deer went down in her tracks with one destroyed lung and a pulverized liver and stomach.
I switched to my Remington 11-87 as the second doe fled, but Vapour's Encore delivered another 200gr Shockwave through the spine of the neck at 120 yards...not bad for a dead run!  Obviously she piled up right there.
I hope to find some more deer when more hunters are out this weekend...frustratingly slow for early season and the number of deer in the area.

The most interesting part was when my idiot neighbor called the game warden on us for "hunting with rifles".  The officer complimented my thumbhole Omega and left.  You think the guy would learn since he did the same thing last year....how many times before I can sue for harassment???

Ain't them Shockwaves grand!!! My deer was at 90 yds and fell where hit. I also shot an Omega .50, a SS with laminated stock. Around here, a 100 yd shot is loooong, with all the cover. IF, you hunt the crop fields, then you may get a long one but the deer are more plentiful in the wooded areas surrounding the crop fields. One reason they LIKE the wooded area could be Bio-Logic food plots, etc. We plant several food plots and have increased our success over hunting the harvested crop fields. These plots are small and narrow, affording a clear shot from either end, depending upon the wind.
What is your load? I shot the 200 gr Shockwave over 80 gr BlackMag' 3 and CCI 209 primer. NO crud ring and easy cleanup.

Well off to the blind and put another Shockwave to work.

boy it sounds like the 200gr shockwaves worked good on game with the bullet opening up like they should.

on opening day i took my NEF Ultraslug 20ga and my Knight Rifle loaded with the 250gr SST out .i had planned on shooting a buck with both but it didnt work out that way.i shot my first buck with the ultaslug and later that day i killed the 2nd one with the ultraslug.i had both of the guns hanging on hooks,i was hunting from a tree stand, when the 2nd buck came along i grabbed the gun closest to me.the 3 inch Federal Barnes Expander slugs worked great like they always do.

i guess if i want to try the SSTs or Shockways out on game this year myself i will have to buy a doe tag.

good hunting to all of you and good job on those muzz loader kills :toast:

My only beef with the 200gr SW was getting them to group. Never did find
a load that would group well in the Encore (ok, I didn't try THAT hard) and
had a dickens of a time finding an accurate load in the Savage. But WOW,
once I did!!

Got an 8-pointer but had to go for a shoulder shot because of brush. It was
the only kill area which was not obscured. At the pull of the trigger, he went
down like shot in the head. Post mortum revealed the bullet had fractured
entrance shoulder, ticked entrance rib, centered through exit rib, crushed
exit shoulder, and the jacket was just under the skin on the exit side. A
piece of lead had exited, while most of the lead (pieces) was in the exit
shoulder area.  I couldn't believe the damage done to the lungs for being
hit so far forward in the lung area -- there just wasn't so much of a
recognizable piece of lung left -- this still makes no sense to me. Not
complaining, just wondering how that could possibly have happened.
Needless to say, I too, am very pleased with the 200gr Shock Wave.
We need to change our politicians
like we do dirty diapers.............
for the same reason.
