.357 Max bloodied!
« on: November 14, 2004, 03:33:08 PM »
:D Bloodied my Max and myself for the first time today, Took a nice big Doe I'm guessing 100 to 110lbs (probably 80  ), Shot placement was'nt perfect I hit her about 2" high and an inch or two too far back but the performance was a ok. Missed the ribs going in and out but punched a hole in one lung and took out most of the liver and half the other lung. Found pieces of lung where she got hit. bullet size going in about nickel size coming out, She ran right at me and made it about 50 or 60yrds before she piled up in a heap.Left a blood trail I could follow in the dark but no need.

I was using my maxed out .357 handi with a williams FP peep and a hornet front blade, 180gr LBTs over 21grs of H4227, 2000fps give or take a few. Got'er zeroed at 50yrds I shot this one at less than 25 everything worked as advertized, Meat in the freezer I'm a happy hunter.

Pictures when I learn how. 8)

Exellent      Hope I get another with my Max this year. What I can't believe is how neglected this cartridge is by lever gun makers. Oh well, their loss. Good for you Bob :D

Bob, that's great news. If there were gonna be any problems with the Max and hard cast bullets, it would have been on exactly that kind of shot. You got all the damage that was needed without hitting anything solid. I've never had any doubt the Max and hard cast would handle bone, but I was a trifle concerned about the no resistance shots.

You said 180 LBT. Do you have an LBT mould I have not heard about or was that one of the LBT style bullets from the Lee six holer group buy moulds?

Thanks everyone it was  atrill.
DJ I've been moving around alot and haven't been able to cast any myself so I used some of Verals fine bullets, A little pricey but they work very well, Thanks Veral.

Hellacatcher she looks bigger every time I look at her.  :-D  :toast:
