I just wanted to let everyone know that along with a few other people this year, I got my first handgun deer kill today. After hunting all morning, and missing a decent 8pt buck(punched the shot low...buck fever I guess), I went out this afternoon at ten till 4. At 4:12, I shot a yearling doe at a touch over 75 paces. She was quartering towards me, and the shot caught her just above the point of her right shoulder, and exited at the last rib on her left side...she only made it about 50yds. or so before piling up. It's a good thing that she fell in sight too, as it was raining most of the day, and I didn't find much of a blood trail till just before I found her(and that was only after backtracking from where she lay). Now for all of you that like to hear the details...I was using a Lone Eagle 44mag pistol, with a 2x Bushnell Trophy scope on it. Reloads were 240gr. XTP bullets in Winchester brass, and CCI#350 primers to ignite 20gr. 2400 powder. The exit wound wasn't real impressive(about the size of a dime), but the internal damage was pretty good, as I had to throw out about half of the right shoulder. The shot hit the heart, lungs, and a bit of the liver. Not too bad in my opinion, for a load done with a Lee Loader. It's not the biggest deer I've ever got, in fact it's probably one of the smallest, but I'm mighty proud of it, and if I could figure out how to post a picture, I'll put it on here...I think you have another convert.
