I went to Academy last night and checked out severql scopes for clarity and focus. I first tried the Redfield Tracker which was pretty clear from center of crosshairs to edge on 6x but failed miserably set on lower power setting becoming out of focus set at 3x halfway from the center. Same test on a Bushnell Trophy showed no such problems whatever and appears to be a well designed scope for deer hunting. There was a Simmons (not Aetec) that was unusable (4-12x) a BSA 4-16 also unusable even with adjustable objective, Leupold Rifleman that was as good as the Bushnell Trophy except the field of view was not as wide and a Millet gold 2.5 by 10 that was very good but the scope body was very short and the objective lense too large for my taste in a deer scope. Best two were the Rifleman and the Trophy with a 100 dollar difference in price.

Anyone have any comment on how rugged a Bushnell Trophy scope might be. Compared to a Weaver K2.5 or 4x.

I wouldn't worry about it being tough enough. I've not used the rifle scopes on any real hard kickers as I don't really have any except the new R700 CDL .35 Whelen I just picked up. But I've shot plenty of hard kicking handgun rounds down range using the Trophy 2-6 handgun scope and it holds up well. Handguns deliver a lot more abuse to scopes than even the heaviest kicking rifles do.

Recoil isn't the tough part I am thinking about, more along the lines of being able to take hard knocks. The scope I decide on will go on my do anything and go anywhere 308. This means boats and horses and as both seem to have a dislike for guns of any kind. This will mostly be in east Texas woods and river bottoms hunting feral hogs and deer. I have a Tasco World Class 2x7 on it now and though it has never changed zero on me I just don't trust Tasco scopes due to past problems. I have two steel tube Weavers that I am thinking about sending to the El Paso weaver repair facility and having post and crosshair reticles put in them, a 3x and 4x. Or I have a broken Denver Redfield I can trade in under warrenty for a new Weaver 2.5x or 4x plus a bit of cash at Simmons.. Decisions decisions.

Ya want tough. One day as I was getting down out of one of my treehouse stands I had placed my S&W Classic DX 8-3/8" barrel gun wearing a Bushnell Trophy scope loosely in the shoulder holster but not snapped it. I bent to pick up something and it fell at least four feet straight down onto the wood floor and hit on the scope. The gun/scope together must have weight over 4 pounds and likely well over as it was fully loaded.

I figured I might have broken the scope. But when I got home and tested it on the range it was still dead on. Scope is still in use and still fine. Are you going to bang one around any worse?

That sounds plenty tough to me. I think I will buy the Trophy, send the old Weavers in to be rebuilt and trade the Redfield in on a new Weaver 4x. That will make me flush with tough scopes!

I have two Bushnell Trophys on my slug guns...Two 12GA bangers...If they can handle that recoil and the various other abuse I hand out then they can pretty much handle anything...

BTW, I am shooting 2 3/4" Winchester Partition Golds out of a H&R Ultra Slugger as my primary slug gun...Hot load to be shooting...Would probably make mince meat out of lesser scopes.

What model Trophy (power) do you have on your 12 gauges?
