Gun shows shout be OUTLAWED!!
« on: November 20, 2004, 09:40:26 AM »
Atleast for weekends when the wife is away and it's raining too hard to go hunting!

I bought my first contender at the last show, and within a month had a total of 4 barrels for it already.  The wife was "concerned"...

Just got back from the show today...."concerned" is what I hope for...PISSED is what I expect.  There was an Encore in 7mm-08 with a variable scope AND dies for $450.

NOW, the average GUY with any sense knows you can't pass up a deal like this.  It's been my experience that most women just can't comprehend this!

The plan is to keep the Encore in carbine configuration, and the contender as a pistol.

You could KIND OF SAY I saved money by buying the encore!  I was planning on going with a carbine set-up for the contender as well.  By getting the encore, I BASICALLY saved $80 on the stock and fore-end, and an additional $200 by not having to buy a carbine barrel.

Somehow, I don't think she is going to fall for it  :?

Splash on a little cheap perfume and rub a little lipstick on your collar.  Then after the storm erupts, tell her the truth and how luck she really is!

Never have understood why a man would marry a woman who cared what he did with his hard earned money. If mine complained like some claim theirs do I'd be single.

I guess I kind of see her point.

I had her help me move all of my guns into a safe.  When it got to the point to where I was trying to triple-stack my rifles, she asked me, "do you REALLY need all these guns?"

I never really thought about it before.  SOMEHOW, I knew the answer was YES, but I didn't even know WHY myself.

The one I heard and like the best is...
"When I die I hope my wife doesn't sell all my guns for what I told her I paid for them".....

First of all, I agree with GB and cknight98 about wives and money.

In my marriage a share of all income (mine and hers) goes into the family pot, a share gets tithed, a share goes into savings, and rest is 'disposable'.

Not much some months, but as long as there are no emergencies and the bills get paid, we each get to dispose in enjoyable (and legal) ways.

Now, for "second of all"... I just bought a Contender for my wife. She shot one at silhouettes, with a .22LR bull barrel, awhile back (year or so) and has wanted one ever since. She knocked down 2 pigs with her first three shots :gun4: and turned to me and said, "That's fun, I want one!"

I recently found a trade deal online and "our" T/C will be picked up tomorrow. My expectation is that this one will become hers, and I will find another that I can carbine-ize as time goes on.

She also has a Henry lever .22 and a .22 NEF Sportster, but her tendency is to grab her Henry when we go out plinking. She loves the Henry, just 'likes' the NEF.

Anyway, I don't have to pretend with her, like I did with a previous wife, so I am a happy guy! :-D

When I die, I hope my wife keeps the guns she wants, and finds good homes for the rest!

Cheers
Kerry

Man, you guys have no class...When you come home from the gun show  the first thing you say is, "Wow! look what I got for your rifle, what a bargain", then hand her a new sling or scope covers  or box of brass.  She won't care about anything else ofter that.  Works with mine anyway.

You fellas almost caused me to doubt my manhood!  SO, I went back to the show today and bough 2 Mosin Nagants.  My first EVER mil-surplus guns.

Thanks for the encouragement

My wife and I have both come to the agreement that guns are quite good investments, so when we find a good bargain, we make an investment.  Before I married her, she knew what she was getting into, and even though she shoots very little, she understands the point of owning, using, and investing in guns, and that certainly makes me happy!
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

I thought about the idea of buying guns as an "investment".  Unfortunately, I have ABSOLUTELY no interest in ever selling ANYTHING I have.

I like the idea of closing my eyes, pulling 2 or 3 guns out at random, then heading to the range for a day of fun.

The Contender and Encore are in my collection because I LOVE the idea of being able to pack (the equivalent of) 3 or 4 guns in a single gun case when you go on a trip.  Being able to add a new caliber to the collection for under $200 is definitely a plus too.

It's not so much an investment from the point of view of selling them.  My wife and I believe that the acquisition of quality firearms is an investment for our children.  I strive to acquire good guns with little or no "paper trail" to ensure that when it's time for me to pass 'em along, my kids will have good stuff that won't put them on the radar screen of the increasingly liberal and anti-gun US (and unfortuntately world) government.  I consider it my duty to support the gun industry and to do what I can to ensure that my children have the same or better opportunities to hunt, fish, enjoy our wild places, and maintain their freedom that I currently enjoy.
