Strong smelling red fox
« on: November 21, 2004, 10:54:17 AM »
I caught a big male red for yesterday. I noticed that he had a very strong "fox smell" about him, much stronger than the other foxes I caught this season. When I skinned him I found scars on his hind legs and tail. He was well furred, except for there scars. I am not sure if he has recovered from mange of had some type of injury. Have any of you had a fox that stinks this much? Shotgunner

Some of the male fox have a very strong smell even to a point of skunky.  Being that the fox was well furred  there  isnt a  chance it had mange.... a mangy fox or yote smells very bad even worse than a yote does normally,   .  Be carefull when turning fox on board with the scars as  you could rip hide where scars are..  soon as fox is dry to touch but not dry crinkly turn fox carefully.
