Well my father came over tonite and have been keeping his Ruger 7mm-08 Compact at the house. He is 74 years old, and has eyes like a hawk.
He said that he did not like a scope because of being able to pick up deer with a scope was too difficult. Well he wanted to trade his Ruger for my Marlin 1894FG in 41mag. Season opens Saturday for rifle in Tennessee. I live in Alabama. So I thought what the heck, let him try and get first blood with that Marlin. Shots would not be further than 100 yds. the way the terrian is laid out. Lots of woods with hardly no open fields. Hope he gets one with it. I think he feels more confinident with it than the Ruger, I've hunted this area before and I think it's an ideal rifle for the area.
I don't have the money to buy out of state hunting license for Tenn.
Should I have made the Trade????
As long as my father is using it, I really wish him the best of luck with it.
What do you think??

big K;

The rifle is a trade for good. It's just after deer season he brings it over at my house for safe keeping. So for 10-1/2 months it's here. and can shoot it at anytime.
I was just thinking, after all the things he's done for me through the years. And all the guns he bought me when I was a kid, figure I could give him my FAVORITE rifle, even though I really did not need the Ruger.
But... I worked a handload up for that 77 in 7mm-08 that really shoots.
A 120gr. Sierra ahead of IMR-4064, and it'll put five in an inch at 100yds. and that thing has a 16-1/2" barrel.
Heck! He even throwed in the 2.5X8X42mm Sightron scope I bought him for fathers day, I paid $160.00 for that scope two years ago.

I say Dad should have whatever gun he wants.  After all, they spend most of their time with you anyway, just pretend they're on vacation while he has them.  After all, he won't be around forever, and more importantly, he's DAD!  :grin:

Not that I'm biased or anything....... :roll:

If you can shoot home invaders, why can't you shoot Homeland Invaders?

Thanks papajohn;

I guess I just needed to hear from someone else that I made the right decision. It's kinda hard to give up your favorite rifle, but like you said...it's for DAD.  :-)
