Actually accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour is all that's required to become a Christian. All the rest is fluff. Nice but not a mandatory part of the package.

I stand corrected. My catholic upbringing tends to show thru when I talk of things religious. That said, in my personal quest for enlightenment I have found that not all the things I was tought as a youngster are necessarily to be found in scripture. As you noted all that is truly required is that one accept Jesus as the savior & do your best to follow the word. Most of the other "fluff" is pretty political & IMO hasn't much to do with what Jesus was trying to teach.

Well guys since I am just hanging around here tonight anyway, I thought I'd chime in on this one.
Not to cause or even appear to be disagreeable, but to clear something up, to be "born again" requires acceptance and belief in Jesus Christ as Savior. To be a "Christian", on the other hand, I believe requires a willingness to follow the teachings of said Jesus and allow His Spirit to reside in and have an effectual outward showing in our lives, in which we serve Him and allow Him to be Lord of our lives (Please refer to my signature below). To be one who only has what I like to call "fire insurance" is far different than to be one who is a "disciple" of Jesus and a child of the Father. The word disciple, being a derivative of the word "discipline", or visa-versa, indicates something more than a simple one time confession, it requires a daily lifestyle change and discipline of one's "self". (Galatians 5:14-18 ) I am the son of a baptist preacher and was born a baptist, or so it seemed. However I have long since found that not all that call themselves "Christians" are truly so. After all, it was at Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians because they were seemingly doing as great a work as Jesus Himself and were full of the same power and faith (Acts 11:19-26) Please believe me when I say that to be a true Christian is a co-exsistence of both human and divine nature in the body, soul, and spirit of a human being who is being governed by the third person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Your actions in every word and deed will reflect to what depth of relationship this has become in your life. Thank You.

I saw someone on FOX news talking about illegal immigrants and how measures need to be taken so these immigrants can work in the U.S., enjoy some of the benefits of U.S. citizenship but not all of them, and not feel as if they are "second class" because........................... there are some jobs that Americans simply will NOT do.

Now that rocked my world! Does that mean American citizens are so spoiled, so high and mighty, and so arrogant that menial tasks are beneath their dignity? ................ And then I began to think about some of the people I know, and came to the conclusion that there really is an undercurrent of arrogance within our society. For example...

I know a man who lives off his relatives mostly but will take odd jobs from time to time. However, he refuses to work for less than $10 per hour. This man could be completely without any money but will refuse any job if it pays less than $10 per hour yet this man will go eat at the soup kitchen.

I know another man living on Social Security Disability... a little over $500 per month. He will not do any work for less than $20 per hour, and that must be paid under the table so there is no record of it that could endanger his "dole".

I know a woman who thinks occasionally sweeping and mopping a floor as part of her job is "demeaning" (her word!) and being asked to do it is an affront to her dignity.

I also know a man (me) who sweeps and mops the floors in his home, vacuums the carpeting, washes the windows/mirrors/walls, cleans the bathroom, changes the kitty litter, takes out the garbage, washes dishes, mows the lawn, and sundry other "menial" tasks of everyday life who is now astonished that by doing all this stuff he has allowed his dignity to be insulted......... my, my, how the neighbors must consider him to be a subhuman low life "menial worker"!

What in the world has happened to this country?  Menial work is beneath the dignity of the American citizen so, since the work still has to be done, America will allow immigration of a whole new set of and whole new slant on...... slaves?

Yep, I said "slaves" because, illegal immigrants or even legal ones, allowed into this country for the express purpose of inhabiting a lower societal level... that of "menial worker"... is encouraging a form of slavery. Remember that slaves were considered "less than" and not "equal to" the elite who were too good to do those menial tasks. I'm talking about societal attitudes now... not if those "menial workers" get paid to be looked down on by Americans too good to engage in menial work. Being paid (and rest assurred it will be very low pay indeed!) isn't the issue... encouraging an attitude of elitism within our society is the issue.

I hope I've managed to express what I'm trying to say... I'm disturbed that our society has sunk to where it has to import people to inhabit a lower class in order to foster the arrogant idea that there is an upper class. I'm really intensely disturbed that this arrogant idea is so wide spread that is is being taken as a truth... that Americans are entitled to have lesser people do their dirty work... and it is being said bald faced on national news as if it were simply a fact.

I can't help it. If a person comes to this country to work and continue working on a regular basis then they should be required to become a citizen... or get a job in their home country and leave the job here open for a citizen. And if they do become a citizen of the United States of America.. then become one in speech, attitudes, loyalties, and perspective.... or go back to where they came from and stay there. But once a citizen these people are entitled to all the rights, the benefits, and the responsibilities! of those born into that citizenship.
The longer I live, the older I get.
Neither has anything to do with wisdom.

Our country does not "have to" import these immigrants at all.  Illegal is illegal and they need to be shipped back or better yet have the Federales come and pick them up.  Do not allow aliens into our country and when there is no one to pick the fields the owners will pay enough that the American worker will do the work.  We will have to pay more but that is much better in my opinion.

Good on ya Bikenut!!

Bikenut...

   You're right;...NO...HONEST work is demeaning..

Strange; how some of these same folks that think honest labor is demeaning,  ADMIRE the Hollyweird crowd that does semi- pornographic work as a regular job...

Some of them still ADMIRE a bunch of basketball players that attack their own spectators!

Judging by recent performances, perhaps basketball should be renamed  "Thugball" !

Some that won't do "demeaning work" seem to admire "pimps and hos"..

Some women that think mopping a floor is demeaning, will fill their minds with " soap opera" garbage.....etc...etc...

This attitude is not confined to any nationality or ethnicity...but rather to a common state of mind among it's participants...

Well...I suppose we can all get the picture...

I have a ministry one Sunday each month at a local nursing home....primarily old folks ...and some handicapped..

I see those LPNs that work with the elderly. Thses ladies do it all...they empty bed pans, change some ugly bedsore dressings, clean up incontinent folks, clean up vomit etc etc...

Is that work demeaning ? I WOULD SAY NOT!!

Those LPNs are great people as far as I can see...they are doing a job that I (and many others) could not do...I just don't have the stomach for it..

I don't know if these fine folks even get the $10 per hour...and certainly not the $20 per hour!!!

Any layabed that insists that his lazy, bottom feeding frame is worth more than these patient, hard working ladies ought to be extremely ashamed.....but then, if he had any shame, they wouldn't be " doling it " in the first place...

Perhaps the money that is being spent in our public schools by the federal government to support the free handouts of condoms and federally funded "planned parenthood" should be spent to salary some of those elderly patrons and patriots of this country who have not quite reached the "bedpan" state so they could teach a REQUIRED couse on the late and post-depression state of our great nation. Perhaps if the school children were forced to sit and listen to stories of their "heritage" more, then they would begin to appreciate the "culture" that was meant to be formed from the actions of those days. Perhaps if the school children of our great country were "schooled" in the "heritage" of this country again, namely the Godly heritage that our forefathers established through their wisdom and were willing to die for, the "culture" of this nation would take a great turn-around.
The elderly would no longer be considered burdens upon society but would begin to be appreciated for the wealths of wisdom that they all contain and are! The teenagers of this country perhaps, would get their heads out of their pants and begin to have some type of fore-sight and see the importance of "making" something of themselves, worthy of the 10-20 dollar an hour wages afore-mentioned. Perhaps the "illegal" immigrants would not so easily find the work that they do find here now, so readily available to be taken. And perhaps the employers who supply these type jobs would not be so desparate to give them away, their desparation coming from years and years of the lazy, "I'm better than that" attitudes of the American working class, of which I am, and have always been a part of, BTW.
I'm just saying......."perhaps".

EXCELLENT.  Good for you Mr L.

In my opinion, this is a GOOD IDEA, assuming the participating seniors are not of the Lautenberg/Kennedy ilk.
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.
