:D Hello! I have been lurking on the NEF forum all this time, along with a lot of time spent on the Traditional Muzzleloader Rifle & Shotgun forum. (Search for topic: UNDERHAMMER)

I had started late last year getting my 12ga NEF Tracker II set up for this year's deer season.
I hunt on State of CT land, there is a nice forest, 1300 acres about 10 min. from home.
I drew a deer tag for the 2nd S/G season beginnig  this Sat. I have 2 Saturdays and 2 weekdays
during this 10 day season.  If I get anything, I will certainly report on that on the NEF S/G forum....

.....I also have a tag for CT m/l season in Dec., and plan to hunt all of 2 Sat. and 4 weekdays unless I have success sooner than later......

I then completed my NEF battery with a Handi in 7-08Rem, which had lockup problems that were readily resolved by the  factory, and with a  Sportster 22LR Youth model that I converted to adult size with factory wood.

The Sportster is all set with a Weaver rimfire scope, shooting low velocity Eagle target ammo or Remington Subsonics.......

The only hunting story I have so far is pretty modest....I got 2 accessory  bbls.   for the Tracker II,  28" mod, and 32" full. I did hunt squirrel this Sept. one day with the 28" mod bbl. I found that the trap shooting with the 32" full bbl that I had been doing really paid off when I nailed  one of the 3 critters of the day in mid-air while he was leaping between trees.....!

Thanks for wondering where I've been!  I guess that I have just not been that talkative lately.
Hope your Thanksgiving was good!
David

Anyway....I had said that I (thought that)  I was  initially looking for a Handi in 7X64 Brenneke, but "settled" for a 7-08Rem .  I turns out that that was probably a very good thing, as I definately did not like the 30-06 Browning single shot I had previously, and I may not have liked the 7x64 very much either!  I find the 7-08 quite tolerable, and hope to do serious load workup next year on it.   There is no pressure to get the 7-08 ready for any hunt, since in CT on State land, I can only use a 22LR , shotgun, or shotgun slug , or muzzleloader rifle, depending on the season and game. I did get a 22Hornet access. bbl for that rifle as well, as I wanted to be sure I had that in the event that it is ever d/c'd

What I plan to use the 7-08 for after loads are worked up is unclear. I do have a hope of someday going on a Maine or VT  moose hunt.....or if we ever do move to WV I would have that ready.......the Hornet is just for fun so far.
Squirrel.......the OTHER dark meat.....!

Sounds like you have been busy and happily busy at that, It looks as if that 7mm-08 is going to work out well for you. If you do decide to get up to Maine be sure to give me a call, the light is always on for you at camp. We may even go out before you get there and tie one to a tree for you....<><.... :-D
