Harpy: I apologize for not responding sooner.
I'm sorry, but I don't have the technological capabilities to send or receive pictures. But to answer your question, yes, my Winnie started out as a timber carbine with a 20" bbl and fullmagazine tube. I was incorrect in one of my earlier posts in that my bbl carries a 1:26 twist. Just imagine the timber carbine with 6 additional inches of barrel and mag tube. It is a nice looking rifle and the extra bbl and tube bring the weight to 7+1/2 lbs. A nice weight that balances evenly along the extra length of the rifle and makes for both easy carry for a long gun and softer recoil from the bench.
You mentioned that you made your own bullets, as does Lloyd, but you also showed a 270/75 grain jacketed spitzer. Is that also of your manufacture, and if so, 'wow'. You also mentioned that you were going to start making some 350 - 500 gn spitzers. I have always felt the 444 capable of accuracy with heavy bullets, whether gas-checked or jacketed and I'm real glad to say that you've confirmed that with the accuracy you descibe. I'm so jealous.
For the time being I am shaking off the winter blahs and getting ready for some range work with some 300 and 335 grainrs I was experimenting with. They're loaded, might as well shoot them. I always stay within pressure limitations, preferring accuracy to the extra ounce of power you might get with max loads. And since I like my Winnie and ant to keep us both around for a while, 2 questions at you: What are your powder charges for the accuracy loads you shoot and are they at safe pressures. Also, how difficult is it to seat the bullet to proper depth for reliable lever functioning with enough powder in the case to move them out like that????? Thanks Harpy. Mikey.
