Took a nice doe this morning on the opener with the .45 Vaquero.
The shot wasn't much to brag about but was a sure thing at 32yds. This was a frontal shot with just enough angle for the bullet to exit some distance behind the far shoulder. At the report, she went down in her tracks and that was it.

My reloads were moderate using a 250gr Hornady XTP over 21.6gr of 296 & fed 150 primer for a strong 1,100fps out of my 7-1/2" barrel.

It is good to get meat in the freezer. Still have the Jan handgun season and am looking forward to it.

Congratulations! It looks like a good year for handgun "firsts" and a bad year for the deer.  :)
A soon as I can get back out I'm going to have to try with a revolver.

glanceblamm,

Congratulations old man, Theres nothing like getting game with a hangun.
Don't get much chance to handgun in the area that i hunt. Most shots are in the 100 yd plus due to the open country. I do use the handgun when i go to the mountians. Take care.........Joe............

Congrats on the deer,   Hope it's the first of many handgun deer for you.  I'm sure glad we can use our handguns now in the regular firearms season.  That January season gets to cold!!!

I am around 20 mile east of Springfield and just a stones throw from the Sangamon River bottoms.

Great to hear from you. Sure would like to make it out your way sometime. Could do everything from the P dogs to those Mountains (if our knees hold out) :)

I used on of those portable blinds this year. You know, the kind that attack you when you open them up! :)
This worked well and should be pretty snug come Jan.

Welcome To Graybeard And Congratulations.  :D
This is worthy of your own post as you can fill us in on your Make, model, caliber  along with factory or handload info, shot taken, and your thoughts on how well it worked.

Congrats man!  I too broke the ice this year with my handgun first!  It was a button buck(thought it was a smaller doe  ) but it might as well been a 12 point buck.  I was waaaaaaaay excited after that ordeal.  What a feeling.
