Name that bullet

A while back I was bidding on a bullet mold on ebay.  It was a two part affair that you used one mold to make the forward portion of the bullet out of your chosen alloy.  (assuming softer) and then placed that in the second mold and cast that. (assuming harder)  I thought this intriguing. Does anyone know the name of the co. which produced these and are still being made.

Pretty sure Veral Smith of LBT still makes those. He is a sponsor of this site and you'll find his banner in the rotation as well as on the Cast Bullet Forum at the top. He also has his own Forum to answer your questions and has his banner there as well.

Lyman also made those. I had one in 45 caliber a while back from a gunshop liquidating they're inventory. The pieces were epoxied together but I don't think that's what you seen from what you describe. I cast 32 caliber round balls of pure lead and melt them separately in a dipper. Pour that melted ball in my rifle bullet mould and finish off with wheel weight. It does good for handgun bullets too, especially hollow points. It prevents a speciality mould for making soft nose bullets.

I own one of thse moulds in 44 mag. where you make the nose which has a shank on it that would never seperate from the bottom half. you just make the nose's out of pure lead and put them in the other mould to make a real nice soft nose gas check bullet for hunting. the mould was made by n.e.i. but i really think they do not make those any more!

www.mountainmolds.com will make those in a two cavity version with nose and full bullet on one block.

I make up softnose cast using my regular moulds, two pots and homemade dippers. A 9mm case holds 135 grains of lead which makes a nice nose on a 405 grain .45-70. You have to run pretty hot and cast as fast as you can to pour the lead in and fill with your regular alloy to get nose and base to fuse.
