Here are a couple of items you might want to throw in when you head out for the range: a box of band-aides (something on my Marlin is really sharp but then I had to be told I was bleeding--didn't notice the little red trail I was leaving) and some extra ear plugs.
These along with the ammo, loading blocks/stage strips, empty brass bag and all the rest you would normally think about.
I take my digital camera along and from time to time get some good(?) action shots of the posse in action. Later that night I can send them to the club secretary for posting on the website if she wishes.
Water is a nice touch and a bottle or two keeps you hydrated especially here in the hot Texas summers.

:oops: I can attest to the fact that a screwdriver set and a cleaning rod can be REAL handy sometimes!

If yer gonna shoot black powder, a bottle or container filled with soapy water to dump yer spent cases in is a good idea. I use old pyrodex bottles, properly marked, filled about 1/2 to 3/4 full of water with a little dish detergent and a little Murphy oil soap. This size container will usually hold about 100 cases of .45 Colt. Also, a small spray bottle of whatever cleaner/lubricant you use is prudent. I use Ballistol, so I carry a small bottle of the pure stuff and a spray bottle with a little Ballistol (about 10%) mixed with a 50/50 mix of water and Windex. You can use pure ammonia, but I'd only use a small amount, say 10% ammonia or less. Oh, and don't forget a few cleaning patches and a cleaning rag or two.

I also put in a container of the handi wipes. Especially when shooting BP. good to wipe off the hands and even guns.

I have an umbrella that is attached to the gun cart. I have seen pards looking at me strange in the morning and later see them standing in the shade from the umbrella.

A big ole list of excuses for them non-clangin' rounds!
As in: The sun was in my eyes. The wind musta took it. The smoke from the soot lords up-wind was blockin' my stage. I know I hit 'em all, the spotters are all deaf and blind. That shotgun popper is rusted shut!

Definitely a cleaning rod. You'd be surprised at the number of times mine has been used to tap out some other shooter's squib load that was stuck in the barrel (I also pack along a small brass hammer for that purpose), as well as the previously mentioned screw drivers. When I was shooting Ubertis, I also carried an extra hand and hand spring. I carry extra eye and hearing protection. Where I shoot in South Central Texas, I always carry at least a couple of bottles of drinking water, and sun blocker, especially in the summer. Also in my cart is a plastic rain poncho that I've had to use more than once to drape over the cart when a surprise rain shower shows up. A couple of bungees are also good to have along.

I cant believe you guys let this subject lie low. Tell me what all you put in your cart to begin with.......I am thinking of making one that looks like an old bank safe whatcha think?

A local young lady is now using a completly enclosed cart built to look like an old outhouse, moon cutout on the door and all. It is the most imaginative cart I've ever seen. Bank safe will leave lots of room for lots of options! That'll also make money bags fit right in to hold loose items.

Can of Ballistol
Wipedown rag
Extra hearing and eye protection

In my cart:

Ammo- pistol-rifle-shotgun
hearing protection
band-aids
screw driver set
bag for empty brass
cleaning rod
beverage-usually a jug of water and a couple of sodas
I am going to add a camp chair this year and an umbrella(since my wife is going to start shooting with me)
and of course GUNS!!

Howdy ,
That umbrella will pay for itself a hundred fold in all kinds of weather and can be had in most any discount store and is easily mounted to any cart . And don*t forget the H2O .

Lets kick this one around some again...I find what others use very interesting....anyone got a line on a cleaning rod that looks period correct...I might start making them if nobody makes them..Maybe out of wood like ash who knows

Nope dont have one I saw an old original at a match and thought that would be cool. Maybe I need to try and make one and see if people want them huh?
Should they be made takedown or solid....I would like to have the handel rotate too. Humm has got me to thinking....and thats dangerous.

Solid is stronger and take down more convenient and more trouble to make as well as more expensive. I ain't got a clue what folks of old might have had. I'm betting cowboys had nothing and if needed would cut a stick for the job when out on the range. Now I'm betting buffalo hunters had rods with them at all times.

With the cart you could go with an easier to make one piece design for the long guns and it wouldn't be a problem.

My grandpa had one he made from bamboo no telling where he got it. He was one of those old fashioned gunsmiths for about 60 years.. I swear at his funeral I could smell hoppies #9, I sure miss him he was 85 when he died worked up to that morning....came home for lunch and his nap and never got up...thats the way I want to go.. anyway off subject some.
Ill work on a prototype and get some pictures out...
I would like to standardize the attachment ends.. what do you think would be the most popular...I have dewy ones and proclean I think.. I would like to not have to use adapters like I do for the Dewy ones.

Dewey is the standard. Most everyone has them. I'll bet I have 6-8 of them in different diameters and lengths.
