newbie needs opinions

Hey ya'll. Been lurking for quite a while, but just registered a few months ago. For two years I've been working on my own version of a handi. I've got it far enough along to finally show it off . A 50-90 sharps. It's been test fired but I still have to make an ejector and sights. Well anyway, it's in my album. Ya'll might get a laugh out of it if nothing else. :?

Thanks guys. I'm really proud of it. It started life as a model 088 twelve gauge. I threw everything away but the action and went from there. Heat treated the action, turned the barrel blank. etc.  Just test fired it recently.

Welcome aroard Two Bellies, real nice looking rifle!!! So let us in on it, you test fired it the other day, how did everything go? Any suggestions for those of us here that would like a 50-90, or a .348, or a .35 Remington?. I would really enjoy jearing some of your trials and tribulations of making that beautiful rifle, and shooting it, how is the recoil, about on par with a 45-70 or (shudder) more like a heavily loaded 12 gauge?....<><....

Thanks for all the good comments, I'm really proud if it. No I'm not a machinist, I was a welder for 27 years. But I've always been a shadetree gunsmith. The barrel blank I bought from Getz barrel company years ago for a rolling block project. One place I worked at for 1 1/2 years had a lathe, so I turned the barrel down on it. They had a metal treatment department so I got them to heat treat the action for me after I'd welded two tangs on it. I tig welded the lug on the barrel and sent it to Lee Shaver to chamber. Oh, I built up the two little ears inside the action and milled them off to fit the lug tighter. Bought a stock blank from Calico gunstocks and made the fore arm and buttstock. The buttplate is a schuetzen plate from Dixie Gun Works. I lost the extrctor and haven't made another on yet. When I test fired it I knocked the cartridge out with a wooden dowel. I loaded a cartridge with 65 grains of 4350 a friend had, a 550 grain flat nose from an RCBS mold, tucked it in a tire and lit up the country side. Did it three times with no problem. It literally was a blast.

2B's,
Durant huh!........Heard some big rumbling the other day, just thought it was the big guns at Ft Sill.  Seemed to me it came more from the east than the west. :-D  :-D  :-D   For all those that don't know.  Ft. Sill Ok. is the artillery training center for this part of the civilized world.  They have about 10 gazillion acres over there where they shoot all the big cannons.  We hear the rumbling all the time and I am 30 plus miles away.

Well it looks like DOO-rant is becoming the Handi-Holic capital of Oklahoma doesn't it? Two Bellies where ya at around here? Me and Digger are only about a mile and a quarter apart "as the crow flies". We're both west of town. If ya know where the new glass plant is then ya know where I live.  Just got back from over at Digger's house as a matter of fact and he let me set off a couple rounds each out of his 45-70 and 44 mag barrels. I like both of 'em and can't decide which I would like to have more so like all Handi-holics I'll just plan on having both eventually. One sharp Sharps ya got there guy and we can tell ya got a lot of work in it too. Give us a PM or something and we can get together for the first official meeting of the Durant Handi-Holics Club  :) ............Coffee Slurping Club or something like that.
