poor mans food plot???
« on: November 27, 2004, 02:47:25 PM »
i've got 80 acres of thick brush to hunt. it has some fairly used trails going through it. i want to plant several SMALL food plots to get and keep deer on this land. i cant use a tractor or tiller to work the land, so i'm thinking about Secret Spot seed or Whittail Extreme seed(i dont no who makes this seed but they sell it in basspro/red head catalog). so all i'll do is rake and or poison the ground clear, rough up the ground with a rake ,scatter the seed and hope for the best. sound good?? any info? THANKS!!!!
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

I plant small openings with White clover.  Yea $6/lb.  Spreads by hand in the spring while a little wet.  The biggest problem is the birds love to eat the seed so rake a little dirt over it.  It has to get some sun to work.  The deer won't do much with it until the first frost.  That triggers something that makes it sweet.  I have some pretty nice groups coming in right about the time season opens in MN.  Would be perfect for bow Hunting.
The locals clued me in.. save your money for ammo and arrows!
