First try with new Encore
« on: November 30, 2004, 01:44:41 PM »
Hey gang,  :D
I have had a cast on my arm since I got my new Encore, but just couldn't wait any longer! Went to the range today and shot 10 of the TC Cheap shot sabots, 240 gr. I started with 90 gr. 777 FFG, then tried 100 gr, and finally a shot with 110 gr. All produced nice groups at 50 yards, though my very first shot was off from the group. Maybe I should have snapped a few caps and dry patched it first.
Anyway, my plan was to try out the 250 gr Shockwaves, and move out to 100 yards. So much for planning Got stuck just below the QLA, and would not budge.    So that ended my shooting for today. I was able to remove it when I got home. I know I am not supposed to lube sabots, but I have also heard that some people use bore butter. Thoughts?
Oh yeah, between shots I used a spit patch, and then reversed it. Horrible crud ring to get through each time, am wondering about going to a "cooler" primer than the Winchesters I am using, maybe a CCP?
Just thought I would share my first outing with you all. I am very excited to keep at it and fine tune a bit. I'm thinking 100 gr 777 is plenty, but I don't know.
