Bore Snake opinions???

What is the opinion of the Bore Snake for rifles? I have a new 243 in SSteel that I would like to use it on. I don't want to mess the rifle up as it shoots great. Do these hurt rifles or are they okay to use?       Thanks, Larry

I suppose they are effective at removing powder fouling but little else.  They also after one use are dirty so that you are in effect reintroducing crud into the bore of you rifle..  A good stainless (possibly carbon fiber) rod and a bore guide are what is needed..

I thought about getting one to pass down my barrels to remove any moisture from hunting in rainy conditions.  However, I would not ever replace my dewey rod with one for normal cleaning.
