reloading 8mm to reduce fireball?

I have a mauser that I've cut 5" off the barrel to make it a handier brush gun( with a scout style scope and montecarlo stock) It shoots very well with book loads but this thing throws a wicked fireball and has alot of muzzle climb, fun to shoot but not very efficent. How do you figure out what powder to use? I believe I need a faster burning powder I've been useing H4895 and BL-C2 with 170grain rnsp and 196gr sp from hornady, I would like to keep the fps around 2600 or 2700. any thoughts? :roll:

I would stay away from the ball powders, they seem to be a bit worse than extruded. Have you tried Varget? It works pretty good in my 15" 708 Encore and there's hardly any flash at all. Might mess around with different primers too.

I don't know about the fireball, but the best powder I have used in the 8x57 is IMR 4064. I have also got good groups with IMR 4198 using 150g psp's, but have not tried that powder with my 170's.
